POM POM PILLOWS!
Do you know how to make a pom pom pillow? Well, 29 5th graders do! This is one craft that Miss Mitchell knows how to do!!!
1. The first step is to wrap your yarn on the frame. Depending on how you want the pillow top (dark, light, or mixed) depends on your pattern wrap.
Ben starts the wrapping process.
Kailani shows the checkerboard wrap.
2. After wrapping, you have to tie each square at the corners (81 ties!).
Tyler and Ryan W. tie their pillows.
Lauren shows what it looks like after it is tied.
3. Next, you cut the pillow---all but the bottom 3 pieces of yarn.
Emily show some of their cutting.
4. After the pillow tops are off, it's time to finish the pillow. We have mothers come in with portable machines to help. After we measure and cut the material, it is sewn up on a machine. Then the student cuts a triangle on the corners to make them "pointy." Then they clip around the edge to help it lay straight.
Madeleine and Keli work on clipping their material.
Sewing up the pillows on the machines.
5. Students then turn the material inside out, and begin to stuff.
Ryan K. and Hunter stuff their pillows.
6. Then the tops are tacked on.
Luke and his mom finish up his pillow.
Eli and Elly tack their tops on.
Gavin, Ryan W., and Hunter encourage Hunter's mom.
7. The finished product! Can you believe we did this?!
Hunter and two other students had University of Utah pillows! (Kaden had a BYU pillow, and Emily, a Jazz pillow!)
Tyler's pillow was a New York Jet pillow!

Special thanks to the following students' mothers for helping: Brandon, Keli, Tyler, Liz, Hunter, Luke, Elizabeth, and Skyler!

CLARA IS 11!
On December 8, Clara turned 11 years old! She has 2 brothers. Clara's favorite colors are blue and green, and her favorite food is salad. She likes to play basketball and soccer. Clara is very creative, and is great at crafts and art. She has enjoyed trips to California and Idaho. A wonderful experience that Clara has had is a trip to Mexico, where she helped to build shelters! She even had to sleep in an abandoned hospital! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

OUR FAVORITE CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS
Our favorite Christmas decoration is a Christmas tree---followed closely by lights and stockings. Here are some pictures of my Christmas trees.
My first Christmas tree is upstairs, and very beautiful. It is maroon and gold.
My second tree is downstairs. It is a "Disney/Jazz/BYU tree! I have over 300 Disney ornaments (spelling word for this week) 12 Jazz ornaments, and even a BYU ornament! The tree topper is Snow White. Her skirt lights up! I have been collecting these for 25 years!
If you look closely at my fireplace, you will see the Jazz stockings, hung with care! The Nativity set in front was made totally by my grandmother! She gave it to me before she died. It's one of my best treasures!
Here's Minnie Mouse in her Jazz Santa hat. If you look closely, you will see my Disney desk. The handles are Mickey Mouse!
Okay, so here's my Christmas lights, and door---with a ginormous wreath!
I also have a Christmas bear collection on my ledge!

OUR CHRISTMAS VILLAGE
Our end of month activity for November was making a Christmas Village! Tyler, Ryan W., and Brook were the first to qualify. We frosted and decorated two milk cartons. Then we made trees, set up neighborhoods, and strung lights through the village.
We also made some beautiful 3-D poinsettias that we made into a wreath for our bulletin board.

OUR SPECIAL GUEST
On December 3, we had a special guest from Plymouth, Massachusetts. His name is Michael Weber, and he goes around the country teaching about the Pilgrims, dressing as the character. He also works at the "Plimouth Plantation." In our class, his character is Francis Cook, a Pilgrim who left his wife and young children back in England while he and is oldest son come to America to work. He told about the horrible journey, and how they colonized Massachusetts. Tyler and Eli tried on the clothes of the young children. Ryan W tried on the gown of the very young, and also the hat to cushion his head if he fell.
