PRESCHOOL GRADUATE

Ryker began his formal schooling career
in 2019 at Saratoga Shores Elementary
for preschool.

Ryker really struggled for about the first
month with leaving his mom.
I think a lot had to do with when his family went for a
week to Southern California and he stayed with Grandma Laurel,
and also when his mom had
brain surgery, and was in the hospital,
and then she couldn't pick him up.

Miss Sherrill has been a great teacher!

And even though he loved being home for 2 1/2 months
for online schooling, he kept saying he missed his 
teachers and his classmates.
SUCCESS!!!

Ryker will be in kindergarten this fall!

He will be at the school for 2 years with

his sister, Addie and cousin, Carter.

ELEMENTARY GRADUATION

Beginnings & Endings

I retired from teaching 33 years in May, 2013.

Haley began Kindergarten in the 2013-2014 school year.

I believe she did the first half of Kindergarten at 

Westmore Elementary in Orem,

then they moved to Goshen.

Aunt Ann and the Kindergarten graduate.

Haley graduated from Goshen Elementary School in May, 2020.

The year of the Corona Virus.
Haley is in the last 6th grade class at Goshen Elementary.
Nebo District is changing to having 
Elementary Schools: K-5
Middle Schools:  6-9
High Schools:  10-12

So, Goshen Elementary will be K-5
Mount Nebo Middle will be 6-7
Payson Middle will be 8-9
Payson High School will be 10-12

Haley will graduate in 2026

I am a TRUE Bicentennial Graduate!
Our country was created in 1776.
I graduated from high school in 1976.

Graduation was held at the
American Fork Tabernacle.
I graduated with honors . . . 3.76.
As a reward, all honor students got to
sit in the choir seats on the stand.
They were soft!
We also sang two songs.

That's it.
No cords.
No National Honor Society sash.
I did get a gold National Honor Society
sticker on my diploma.

There were 276 in my graduating class,
and about 850 in the high school.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

To graduate, it is a 4 year program.

Junior . . . Book of Mormon, Brother Bryce Winkel
Senior . . . Old Testament, Brother Bryce Winkel

You had to be enrolled all 4 years.
Now, you can get a certificate if you
have less than the 4 years.


DIXIE JUNIOR COLLEGE
St. George, Utah

I attended Dixie Junior College
my Freshman & Sophomore years of college.
I LOVED IT!!!
There was about 1200 students.

The reason I decided to go there was because
my dad taught Math, Physics, and Surveying
there from 1957-1964.
I spent hours looking through all of his yearbooks.

My best friends, Renae Allen & Carol Steineckert
came down for my graduation!
Carol passed away July 24, 2002.

I also graduated from LDS Institute.
Seminary was for high school students.
Institute was for college students.
You had to take all of the Book of Mormon classes,
plus several credits to finish.
My favorite class was
LDS Church Presidents.

BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY
I attended BYU my Junior & Senior years.
Because I graduated from Institute at Dixie,
all of my religion credits transferred, and I
only had to take religion classes my junior year.

I don't know how many were in my education department,
but there was about 27,000 in the school!

I majored in Elementary Education with
a minor in Spanish and Political Science.

The reason I decided to go there was because I
wanted to be an Elementary school teacher, preferably
2nd or 5th grade.
My mom had had student teachers from all of
the colleges in Utah, and said 
BYU had the best education department . . . which
they did at the time.

I did NOT like living in Provo, my ward,
 my classes, or the people.
The only time I liked it was 
Spring and Summer Quarters, 
and student teaching.

I student taught in 4th grade
at Lehi Elementary.
My cooperating teacher was Kim Hansen.
(Interesting side note.  He knew Conrad
from when he lived in Manti when they were
both single.  Actually, he was Kim's best man
at his wedding!  I was looking through
Conrad's little address book the first year
I knew him.  I saw the name "Kim Hansen".
I asked if this was male or female.
Then, I figured out it was my 
cooperating teacher!)
Loved that experience!

If I had to do it over, 
I would have chosen Southern Utah University
or Utah State University.

Dixie Junior College is now
Dixie State University . . . and I would have stayed there.

DAMON

This is Karen's oldest grandchild.

Karen was my roommate at Dixie.

He is graduating from Mountain View High School in Orem.

When I graduated, there were no cords, of any kind.

He has the white collar for National Honor Society.

I was in the National Honor Society.

We got a gold sticker on the diploma.

The best part of graduating with honors,

was we got to sit on the stand at the Tabernacle.

The seats were soft.

There were cords when my nieces and nephews graduated.

She moved her family from Minnesota to Colorado.

She was a recent widow, with 4 boys and 1 girl.

One of her boys recently graduated from BYU.

The Ator family has 7 children.
I taught 6 of the 7.
I did not teach the youngest, because I had retired.

Cebrina was a cheerleader at Lone Peak when
I received my
TEACHER OF THE YEAR.
It was great to have her and 2 other students
cheer me on as I received my award at Lone Peak.
Cebrina was also a cheerleader at UVU.
She is expecting her first baby later this year.

I did not teach Liz, but her dad taught with me,

and I lined her dad up with his wife, Cortney.

Liz is super smart!

She also served a mission in New Jersey.

Liz signed a contract with the Salt Lake School District
