LIFE
The day before Thanksgiving is always
the day my family decorates the condo
for Christmas...because it's a day off from school.
This time, they decided to do it after
school on Tuesday. "Dance Day" had been moved
to Tuesday that week, and they were going to decorate and
haul the girls to dance.
When we were getting ready to eat, Ashley said
she was getting a migraine.
All of a sudden, she couldn't talk.
Heidi (RN) told her she was having a stroke, and
needed to go to the ER. Kim talked her into going.
Scott Van Wagoner was her doctor in the ER.
Ashley has an aneurysm.
In the meantime, my mom was in so much pain
in her stomach. It started at the beginning of November.
She bent over to pick up something, and the
pain was excruciating!
Off we went to the ER.
Katie was home for Thanksgiving, so she came to the ER.
After an MRI, the doctor said there was
nothing wrong with her.
Are you kidding???
She had asked for her test results go to her doctor.
Dr. Joe knew what it was...a hiatal hernia.
So, Ashley and her grandma started the long
road of doctor appointments and second opinions...angiograms and scopes.
Last Friday, we were sent to the ER at Murray, because
mom's surgeon is there.
Four hours later, we were finally out of the waiting room!
Total ER time...1:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.!
Monday, January 11, was the big day.
Mike gave Ashley a blessing Saturday night.
Laurel stayed Sunday night at Ashley's. She
got the kids off to school, and took Addie and Ryker to Kim.
Ashley had her brain surgery that morning.
The surgery went well, but now starts the long
road to recovery.
Ashley was in ICU until Wednesday.
Jon's sister flew in from Denver for a couple of days.
With no home teachers or visiting teachers,
it's totally family.
And boy, does my family step up!
I'm no help, cuz of mom...oh, and the little
thing about torn Achilles and broken toe.
thing about torn Achilles and broken toe.
But, I told Ashley I'd be happy
to take her kids to Parent Teacher Conferences.
And, they can come to the condo.
Chris has come several times to check on mom.
Nurse Heidi has also come a lot...bearing dinner.
(So great to have 2 RN's in the family!)
Heidi's taking Ashley's 2 oldest after school today.
Preston has basketball tomorrow, and then,
McKay and Lori will take Preston through Monday.
(MLK Day...no school)
In the meantime, Camille is having
her little baby girl tomorrow, January 16.
Her and Mark had been in the ER a couple of
weeks ago. Mark had chest pains.
It was a pulled muscle.
Katie is coming up the middle of next week
to stay with Ashley's family for a week, so Laurel can
stay with Camille and the new baby.
Laurel will then stay with Ashley for
a month or so,
No bending, lifting, etc.
So grateful for my family, and how they step up.
Heidi set up an account at the bank, cuz she has
a $6000 deductible!
I cashed in my change jar...$271.60!
Ashley was so down, cuz she needed to get Preston
a scout shirt, new clothes for Jon (now a supervisor, so
dress clothes), and $500 before they'd take her
at hospital.
They went to DI, and found a scout shirt in
Preston's size! Scout shirts don't last there.
Laurel told her about the account.
She couldn't believe it!!!
It's hard with no help from the ward.
Her bishop knows...but they have a large ward.
I have told the RS Secretary in our ward
about mom, but no response.
My ward has sooo many new sisters moving in.
And the president teaches school.
Our home teachers know, but he's 92 and
his wife is late 80s.
I doubt the bishop knows.
We've just had a couple of funerals.
So, we'll just carry on.
Mom has a heart stress test for Monday,
and meets with surgeon on 25th.
Waaaaay to long!
Here's a couple of pictures of Ashley.

MEANWHILE . . .
Old school battle: Krysko, Griz have tussled with these Dawgs before
It was two days before Christmas in 1985 and the holiday spirit hadn't quite seeped into Dahlberg Arena yet. In fact, Larry Krystkowiak found himself on the arena floor with the arm of a Washington Husky around his neck.
Krystkowiak, then a senior for Mike Montgomery's Grizzlies, dived head first for a loose ball, nothing unusual for the tough-as-nails All-American. Apparently, some of the Huskies took exception to the rough play and some shoving ensued. Then both benches emptied as players paired off.
"I don't remember a whole lot of it actually," said Krystkowiak, now the coach of the Griz, who will face the Huskies Thursday at 1 p.m. (KGVO radio, KPAX TV) in the first round of the NCAA men's basketball tournament in Boise. "It was a heated deal. (Teammate Larry) McBride ended up in the stands with one of their guys."
Remarkably, no one was ejected and the Griz went on to a 78-65 win. Krystkowiak had 23 points, and his 10 rebounds that night made him the school's all-time leader in that category.
Krysko left Montana 2-0 against the Huskies. The Griz beat Washington 72-65 in Seattle during his freshman season.
Washington coach Andy Russo was pretty impressed with the Griz after that night in 1985.
"Montana is a very good team," Russo told the Missoulian. "I don't know if the Russian army could have beaten them tonight."
In the waning moments of the game, Krystkowiak was fouled hard from behind and swung an elbow in retaliation, prompting Russo to scream at the officials that Krystkowiak should be ejected.
"That's the way it's going to happen any time you have two big, physical teams playing that hard," Russo said.
"It was just a good, old-fashioned basketball game," Krystkowiak said.
The Griz haven't faced the Huskies since the 1994-95 season when they completed a two-year home-and-home series.
The Griz won in the 1994 season, 80-73 in three overtimes in Seattle, then downed the Huskies the next season 67-56 in Missoula.
The teams nearly met in the first game of the season this year, but Montana backed out of the deal.
"They made a decision that they had over-scheduled," Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said Monday. "They let us know in July that it wouldn't work out."
Romar wished Griz starting center John Seyfert well. Seyfert played a season under Romar at Saint Louis University.
"John was a delight to coach," said Romar, who said he offered Seyfert a scholarship when the coach left for Washington. "But once the ball is thrown up, you go to war and I know he's going to go to war.
"I hope we can win the game and he can play well. It will be good to see John and his family. I know his mother will be at the game. She's an awesome lady."
A Missoula radio interviewer told Romar he had heard that Romar considered the Griz a "weird" matchup and that he had hoped not to face the Griz in a first-round game.
Romar said he didn't recall saying anything like that, but "if I did, I was temporarily insane."
Montana junior guard Kevin Criswell was sitting out a year as a redshirt the last time the Griz made the NCAA tournament in 2002. They fell 81-62 to Oregon that year in Sacramento, Calif.
Criswell, who was put on antibiotics Monday for a staph infection in his leg, said he doesn't remember much about the trip.
"I know we played Oregon and I didn't get to sit on the bench," said Criswell. "We had to draw straws because there weren't enough seats. We had five redshirts and I drew the shortest straw and had to sit with Mick Holien on the radio sideline. That's about all I remember of it."
Corey Easley and Chris McKay were the other redshirts that season who are still with the Griz. The final two were Jeff Hays and Dwain Schallenberger, who have since left the program.
"It was one of the funnest things ever," Easley said. "I got to sit on the bench and watch the game. It was a great experience."
The Griz could have the crowd on their side Thursday. More than 600 Griz fans snatched up Montana's allotment of tickets on Monday, but many thousands more could be converted Thursday afternoon.
First of all, crowds love an underdog, and there aren't many bigger in all of sports than a No. 16 seed going against a No. 1 seed in the NCAA men's basketball tournament. Secondly, the game's being played at the home of Boise State, a former Big Sky Conference member. And third, Krystkowiak guided the Idaho Stampede to the CBA championship game last year in his only season as the team's coach.
"You hope they can remember the Big Sky Conference days," Krystkowiak said. "If they're looking for somebody to cheer for I don't know why they wouldn't pick the old Griz."
Romar said he doesn't expect his team to be affected by a potentially hostile crowd.
"I think we're going to have a pretty good crowd there, too," Romar said. "Our crowd has followed us all year and has been very supportive. I don't think the crowd is going to affect us."
SERIOUSLY???
Every Rose has its thorn, and Larry Krystkowiak is BYU basketball’s current thorn

Every rose has its thorn — including BYU basketball coach Dave Rose.
Rose’s thorn happens to be Utah basketball coach Larry Krystkowiak at least for the time being. On Wednesday afternoon Krystkowiak phoned Rose and told him Utah wouldn’t be honoring its contracted game for the 2016–17 season.
“The events that have occurred in our recent games with BYU led me to ask (athletic director) Dr. Hill several weeks ago if we could take a cooling off period and put the rivalry on hold,” Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak said in a statement. “The level of emotions has escalated to the point where there is the potential for serious injury. Chris said he would support me in canceling next year’s scheduled game against BYU. I called and let Coach Rose know our intentions a few days after our game (on Dec. 2).”
“I think that if the game was scheduled to be played in the Huntsman Center next year the series would still be alive.” —BYU coach Dave Rose
The events Krystkowiak refers to include the Utah win over BYU 83–75 at the Huntsman Center in December. During the game, BYU freshman Nick Emery received a flagrant two foul for punching Utah’s Brandon Taylor. The closest incident prior to Emery’s punch was in January 2010 when Utah’s Marshall Henderson punched Jackson Emery, Nick Emery’s older brother, during a game in the Marriott Center.
Yes, Rose agrees that the rivalry can get heated at times, but isn’t convinced that the safety of the players is an issue.
There is only one game (the 2016–17) left in the contracted series as the most recent contract was only for two years.
“(Krystkowiak) knows what’s best for his program,” Rose said. “I totally respect that it’s his program. I don’t respect the decision. I think that you’re raised — at least I have been raised — that your word is your bond. We made an agreement … I think that if the game was scheduled to be played in the Huntsman Center next year the series would still be alive.”
“The money can’t replace the game.” —BYU coach Dave Rose
Krystkowiak is going to pay big for breaking Utah’s contract with BYU. For breaking the contract, Utah has to pay a guarantee fee of $80,000 to BYU.
“To me it seems like a significant amount of money; maybe to them it doesn’t seem like that big of a deal,” Rose said. “But the money can’t replace the game.”
As for the future of the rivalry, Rose doesn’t know.
“It’s scary because how do you put another contract together?”
This will be the first year the BYU-Utah basketball teams won’t play since 1944, which only didn’t happen because of World War II. The series has been running since 1909, ranking the seventh longest college basketball rivalry according to the NCAA record book. BYU leads the all-time series with 129–128.

Utah Jazz vs Memphis Grizzlies.
Haley also got a bonus at this game.
An extra 5 minutes of game...as the Jazz

Haley picked out this cute little bear, a pink shirt
