Cartoonist Charles Schulz, who was responsible for Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and gang, has a daughter who lives in Alpine! All 9 of her children went to Alpine Elementary! Her youngest is now in 6th grade! This year is the 60th anniversary of the comic strip! Mrs. Johnson, his daughter, wanted to share her father's legacy with our school. In the fall, she did an assembly telling about her father, and showing original memorabilia. Each student in the school decorated a paper about what makes them happy. These were sent off to New York City to be made into tile. We also made a badge to wear today! Mrs. Johnson gave all the teachers a Snoopy with "Happiness Is...A Warm Puppy!" All of the kids decorated for a badge, and she made them!

The "Linus Foundation" was named after the "Peanuts" character, Linus. He's the little boy who always was packing around his blanket! Every class in our school made one or two blankets for the foundation. It's for hospitals, emergency people, police, etc., to give to children who need a comforting blankie! Dakota and his mom made this blanket!
Heather, Logan, Sofy, Avery, Savannah, and Josh (who missed the picture, because he was heading for the cookie!) made this blanket! I had picked up material, and our room mother picked up some other. I gave the "Cars" materials to these kids (because they all have already qualified for the "end-of-month activity"). They went in the hall, followed the directions, figured out how to cut the slits without a seam ripper...all without adult supervision! It took them only 40 minutes to complete it! I am so proud of them!
