Our beloved husband, father, brother and friend Jonathon "Tig" Peterson 31, passed away peacefully in his home in Salt Lake City on December 8, 2013. Tig was born January 17, 1982 to Mark and Nancy Peterson (both preceded him in death.)
When Jonathan was a young child he spent many hours with his with his maternal grandparents Robert and Jean Larkins. Jonathan enjoyed "Winnie the Pooh", and due to his exuberance and energetic spirit, his grandfather gave him the nickname "Tigger". Henceforth, he was known primarily as "Tig" rather than "Jonathan".
Tig's greatest joy as a young boy was to be on the ball field. Tig found great happiness in being on the baseball field and competing against the best competition Utah had to provide. Many times Tig would say that baseball provided the moral compass for his life. Most of Tig's lifelong friends, his "posse", were part of these teams and memories.
Tig also had a very close and meaningful relationship with his uncle Bob Larkins. Bob, who had a love for racecars and motorcycles, constructed a custom made go-cart for Tig and provided him with both motorcycles and the knowledge of how to ride them throughout his life. The two of them spent a great amount of time together until Uncle Bobs untimely passing.
As Tig grew, so did his personality.
Known for his infectious laugh and effusive personality, people were never strangers once they got to know Tig. A beloved husband, son and brother, people were drawn to Tig due to his never met a stranger" attitude. Tig not only loved people, but was an avid dog-lover. Tig trained the family Rottweiler "Keeper", and was the "dad" to one of the greatest dogs that has graced this earth, Max. Tig and Max were inseparable, and Tigs family, as well as Tigs "posse", enjoyed the company of an absolutely loving and kind dog. It would be remiss not to mention that his loving dogs Athena, Finn, and Wes survive Tig.
Tig spent many long, hard hours developing and involving himself in many lucrative financial opportunities for the benefit of his immediate family, as well as his siblings. Taking a page from his father, Tig came to know the people behind the deals first, then invested in the company. "Your word is your bond" was a favorite saying of his father, and the same could be said of Tig.
While much can be said about Tigs business acumen, it was his family that brought him his greatest joy. Tig met his wife Jonique, and fell in love immediately. It would take several years for them to be reunited, when they married and sealed their eternal love for one another in the Salt Lake Temple. Shortly thereafter, Tig was fortunate enough to adopt Daiviann and bring her into the Peterson family. Tigs family grew with the birth of his son Markus and daughter Taryn. Whether it was hanging out at the house or down in Moab rock climbing with his custom, four-seat rock crawler that his whole family could enjoy, nothing brought Tig greater joy than to be with his family.
Tig is survived by his wife Jonique and three children Daiviann, Markus and Taryn. Tig will always be a part of their hearts, they will cherish the memories with their dad forever and know that he is their treasure waiting in heaven. Tig also left behind five siblings, Angie, Rob, Brian, Sandi and Jeff. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents Audrey and Virgil Peterson, his grandfather, Robert Larkins and his parents, Mark and Nancy Peterson.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 pm in the Alpine LDS Stake Center Chapel, 98 East Canyon Crest Road, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and also Saturday morning from 11:30-12:30 pm prior to services at the church.
