ALL THAT GLITTERS . . .

My best art projects, I learned from my mom,
who taught 1st grade.
Turkey
Valentine Folder
and
Poinsettias

The poinsettias were a blast!
Over the years, I learned a lot.
Especially, about the mess!

I started doing my poinsettias the
Monday before Thanksgiving.
Here are the reasons:
1.  Several kids missed the Monday and Tuesday
before Thanksgiving.
(Wednesday was the day off for doing SEP's),
so many families took the entire week off.
2.  Girls are great at the project.
Boys are not.
3.  Because boys put so much glue and glitter on,
they needed the 5 day break for them to dry.
Otherwise, when hung up, the glue would run.
Each kid made two.
4.  The kids on vacation wanted to do it when
they came back.  I told them because it took
5 days to dry, they were just marked absent
from the project.
6.  One time it was sooo warm, we took the table
outside.  The glitter stayed on the patio,
but not my carpet.  WIN.

We used the poinsettias to make
two ginormous wreaths!
That, along with our Christmas Village,
the lights, stockings, tinsel hung from the ceiling
(Thanks, Conrad, for buying it the first time, and teaching me how to do it),
made the 3 weeks before Christmas in Room 15 a magical place to be.

I was harassed a lot about these.
Custodians (they were nice about it . . . 3 of them were
Calvan's grandsons)
Teammates
One principal . . . who brought up art projects, saying,
"We have an art teacher."
(She did this with turkeys (math, patterning), pillows (Colonial America)
poinsettias (following directions)
Valentine folder (following directions . . . parents always
appreciated this, as they didn't have to make it at home.
And, no, it was not a competition where the best box
made at home won the prize)
The next year, I was retired, and she didn't
have to worry!

I'm pretty sure not one student remembers the
art by the art teacher that year.
But, every time I post a photo on social media
of a class with pillows, I get over 100 "likes",
with many comments from former students that said
they still had theirs, or how fun it was, and parents
loving it, too!

15

THIS GIRL.
IS 15!
SHE IS WRAPPING UP HER
MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS, AND WILL
BE A SOPHOMORE IN HIGH SCHOOL NEXT YEAR!
HOW COULD THAT BE???

MY FAVORITE TIME WITH JAYCIE WAS WHEN
SHE WENT TO THE PRESCHOOL AT
MY SCHOOL.
AT THE END OF MY HALL!
IT WAS SOOO MUCH FUN!
JAYCIE WENT IN THE AFTERNOON.
ASHLEY PARKED BEHIND MY CAR TO BRING
HER AND PRESTON IN, TO SIGN JAYCIE IN.
IT WAS FUN WALKING BY AND PEEKING IN
TO SEE WHAT SHE WAS DOING!
MY STUDENTS LOVED HER, AND EVERY TIME
THEY SAW HER, THEY'D SAY,
"HI, JAYCIE!"

ONCE IN AWHILE, WE'D STAY AFTER SCHOOL
AND SHE WOULD HELP ME WITH A PROJECT,
A BULLETIN BOARD, ETC.

I TOOK HER HOME EVERYDAY AFTER SCHOOL.
SOMETIMES WE'D GET A TREAT,
SOMETIMES GET OUR NAILS DONE,
BUT ALWAYS SOOO FUN.
ON FRIDAYS, I MET HER MOM IN THE
PARKING LOT OF THE TEMPLE, SINCE
THAT WAS MY DAY TO WORK.
WHEN THE TEMPLE WAS CLOSED FOR
THE 2 WEEK CLEANING, WE'D HAVE
A LITTLE OUTING.

BIRTHDAYS NOW ARE DIFFERENT.
WE DO A PARADE TO THE BIRTHDAY PERSON'S HOME.
SOCIAL DISTANCING IS OBSERVED . . . FOR AWHILE.

EVERY AUNT, COUSIN, GRANDMA, GREAT GRANDMA,
AND GREAT AUNT WERE THERE.
ONLY AUNT KATIE (WORKING AT UTAH VALLEY) AND
KAI (HOME WITH DAD WHILE MOM WORKS) WERE THERE.

JAYCIE IS A DREAM CHILD!
SHE IS SOOO KIND, CONSIDERATE, AND HELPFUL.
SHE ALWAYS MAKES THE HONOR ROLL AT SCHOOL.

WHEN IS WAS STATE ADK PRESIDENT, THE CHAPTER
THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THE STATE CONVENTION
DROPPED OUT, JAYCIE ACTUALLY SPOKE AT THE
CONVENTION, BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO BE A TEACHER!

NO ONE IS A BETTER BIG SISTER THAN JAYCIE!
SHE IS ALSO THE BEST HELPER!

SHE IS AN EXACT CLONE OF HER MOTHER!!!

NO, AUNT ANN DID NOT PARK THIS WAY!

I HAD TO DELIVER HER GIFT LATER,
BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW IN COMING.
EVERY SOPHOMORE NEEDS A SCH0OL SHIRT
WITH HER GRADUATION YEAR ON IT!

LILY'S BABTISM

"THE NEW NORMAL"

The words, "New Normal" are being frequently
passed around since March 13, the
beginning of the pandemic, Corona Virus.
"Covid-19" is the scientific name.
Co for Corona, vi for virus,
d for disease, and 19 for 2019, the year
the virus first appeared.

The virus originated in China, like most
of the viruses in this century.  Bleh.

Lily decided it was time to be baptized.
But, a huuuuge change:
only 10 people could go!
Mom
Dad
Brother
Sister
All 4 grandparents
Bishopric member
Lily

Grandma Dixie & I went to Genola
the day before.
I had a baptism bracelet for her,
and I wanted her to be able to wear it.

Also, we took her birthday present
that day, to save a trip two days later.

Lily tried on her baptism dress for us.
The dress was $10, and the jacket was $5.
WalMart for the win!!!

Another "new normal"

Birthday present from Aunt Ann.

Doing the baptism like this . . .
you have to fill and empty the baptismal font,
and clean it out.

Before the baptism, Cole was ordained
a priest, and was able to baptize his
little sister.
Lily's dad and Papa Reid were the witnesses.

Another part of the "new normal",
everyone got on "Zoom" and we were able
to watch the baptism on our phones.
They didn't start until all family were
checked in.
We could watch the baptism, but not
the confirmation.
The baptism could not be recorded.
Papa Davey confirmed Lily.

Papa Davey & Nana Nina, McKay & Lori,
Lily, Cole,Grandma Laurel,
Haley, and Papa Reid.

And that's the baptism
"new normal."

AMEN
