BURGESS PARK
On Monday, September 29, we had our first "End of Month Activity." To be able to participate in these monthly activities, each student must have completed 2 book reports, 5 SRA reading skills cards, and have 25 signatures on their sticker card. Keli was the first one to qualify from our class! We all made it, with the final qualification on Friday. We walked over to Burgess Park with the other three fifth grade classes. First, we had a bubble gum contest qualifying round. Clara had the first bubble, Eli the longest, and Gregory the biggest. Each winner then competed with the other class finalists. After, we had five rotations. We played "Shambattle", parachute games, 3-ball soccer, wiffle ball, and beach volleyball. We ate our sack lunches, and returned to the school. It was a fabulous day! Our next end of month activity will be a class Halloween Party on October 31.

OUR CLASS'S FAVORITE HERO!
After all the Super Heroes listed on our poll, the greatest Super Hero to us is our moms! ---And, rightfully so!!! Besides just being a parent, they are our nurses, cheerleaders, counselors, teachers, laundresses, cooks, chauffeurs, homework queens, music practice taskmaster, spiritual advisors, and much, much more! My mom taught school for 38 years! She taught in a two room schoolhouse in Touquerville, and also taught in Hurricane, St. George, and three different schools in Sandy. She taught 2nd grade, but taught the majority of her years in 1st grade. She retired 10 years ago. Since my father passed away 5 years ago, she has been helping my brother run the family business! She has 2 children, 6 grandchildren (5 spouses), and 7 great grandchildren! Her favorite hobby is being "Grandma Dixie!"
Here's a picture of "Grandma Dixie" with granddaughter, Ashley and great grandson, Preston; and granddaughter-in-law, Lori, with great granddaughter, Haley.
