PRESCHOOL GRADUATE

Ryker began his formal schooling career
in 2019 at Saratoga Shores Elementary
for preschool.

Ryker really struggled for about the first
month with leaving his mom.
I think a lot had to do with when his family went for a
week to Southern California and he stayed with Grandma Laurel,
and also when his mom had
brain surgery, and was in the hospital,
and then she couldn't pick him up.

(Stay strong, Ashley)

Preschool graduation for Ryker!
(At least they had a drive through!)
Soooo proud of my Ryker!

Miss Sherrill has been a great teacher!

And even though he loved being home for 2 1/2 months
for online schooling, he kept saying he missed his
teachers and his classmates.
SUCCESS!!!

Ryker will be in kindergarten this fall!
He will be at the school for 2 years with
his sister, Addie and cousin, Carter.

BACK IN THE POM POM PILLOW BUSINESS

WHY, YES!
THIS IS A PORTRAIT DRAWN BY A STUDENT OF ME.
IT'S VERY ACCURATE!
I TRULY AM THE . . .
POM POM PILLOW QUEEN!

One of the few crafty things I did with my
school kids, that I thought I was good at, was
making pom pom pillows.
My teammate, Calvan, taught me how to
make them my second year of teaching.
I didn't do it my first year, or the year I
wasn't there because of foot surgery.

The directions are not written down.
Everything is in my head.
My students were always proud of these!

I brought home 4 pillow frames when I retired.
I threw the rest away.
Bishop Bagley made 35 for me, that I paid for.
Jon took those 4 home, and made me 4 new ones,
without the rusty nails.

I taught Ashley's 4 kids how to make them.
Ages 13, 10 1/2, 8, and 3 1/2.
Even Ryker, the 3 year old, could do a lot!

When we went shopping for the supplies, I was
surprised how much had changed in 5 1/2 years!
The material was fabulous!
"Frozen", "chevrons", even glitter material!!!

Wrapping

Tying

The "X's" begin to appear

Pillow top before cutting it off . . . to create the fringe

My students always did this.
Putting the pillow top on the head.
Even the 3 year old instinctively knew this part of the process!

Cutting to create the pom poms

Bottom after tying

Cutting it off the frame, creates the fringe

Clipping the material to make it lay flat.
Also, clipping triangles at the corner,
to make the pillow "pointy."
(This is all done inside out)

 Stuffing the pillow

The "Sewer"

Sewing the opening closed

More stuffing

Left over Spiderman material makes a great cape!
(I always had students get more yarn and material
than needed, in case they made a mistake.)

Depending how you start the pillows, gives
you your top color.
Ryker, age 3.
Blue and red yarn.
Spiderman material.

The back shows his material

Preston, age 10 1/2 . . . 5th grade
Blue and yellow.
Solid blue material.
Golden State Warriors colors (favorite team)
or now,
Indiana Pacers colors, Uncle CJ's team.

And . . .a selfie of the sewer!

Addie, age 8.
Light mint and dark mint.
Material was mint and gray chevrons.
3rd grade.

Jaycie, age 13.
Mint and dark gray.
Material is light gray and white.
8th grade.

Jaycie's mom went to 2 days of Young Women Camp.
When Jaycie came home a few days later,
her mom had redone her room!
One of the walls is painted mint.
Sooooo cute!

I am pretty proud that after 5 1/2 years since
the last pillows, I still remember how to do it!!!
Especially, since nothing is written down . . . it's all in my head!

Maybe the next kids to make them, I'll video, explain it,
and put it on You-Tube,
Unless any of my 1,000 students that made them
can figure it out.  That way, I don't have to take it to my grave!

(Click on pom pom pillows under my "labels" on
this blog.  Lots of pictures of pillows through the years.)
