REAR VIEW MIRROR

BRING BACK THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Since the start of this lovely
Corona Virus Pandemic,
I have done a lot of thinking about
the "Good Old Days!"

I was never going to be one of those people.
The people that always reflected on the past,
and their growing up years.

I personally never thought I would be in
my 60's!!!
But, here I am . . . living the dream of
being on Social Security while there's still some!

This photo is sooooo true!
Cartoons were only on Saturday mornings!
(Except "The Flintstones" that came on Friday nights."

And . . . this was how a weekend went:

DRIVE-BY RETIREMENT

Lynnell (Shelley) Fox has been one of my dearest
friends since the mid 1960's.
I met Lynnell in 2nd grade.

Renae's grandfather is Lynnell's great grandfather.
George F. Shelley.
Namesake of Shelley Elementary.
(You can't name schools anymore after
people or towns)

We went to school together.
Had dancing lessons together.

Lynnell went to Weber State with Raylene & Renae.
She married Terry write before we started teaching.
She started teaching in Ogden where they lived.

Then, they moved to American Fork to live in
her grandfather's home, across the street from Renae.

She taught at Geneva Elementary, then she began the
"Frisky Fox Preschool"
After 19 years, she was hired to teach at
Greenwood Elementary.
(Renae's dad was the first principal,
and was there for years.)
Lynnell taught 19 preschool, and
19 in 2 districts.

Terry was a policeman in Ogden and
American Fork.
Then, he was the Chief of Police.

After retiring from that, he was a policeman
at BYU.
I saw him a few times at games.

Good luck with retirement!!!

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Jaycie & Camry were going to be attending
a brand new middle school.
Lake Mountain.

The new Saratoga Spring LDS Temple
is being built behind it.

But, the school wasn't finished when it was
time for school to start!

They had to do school online . . . and go to their
old middle school to take tests and check in with teachers.

Then, Corona Virus, and more online school!

PRESCHOOL GRADUATE

Ryker began his formal schooling career
in 2019 at Saratoga Shores Elementary
for preschool.

Ryker really struggled for about the first
month with leaving his mom.
I think a lot had to do with when his family went for a
week to Southern California and he stayed with Grandma Laurel,
and also when his mom had
brain surgery, and was in the hospital,
and then she couldn't pick him up.

(Stay strong, Ashley)

Preschool graduation for Ryker!
(At least they had a drive through!)
Soooo proud of my Ryker!

Miss Sherrill has been a great teacher!

And even though he loved being home for 2 1/2 months
for online schooling, he kept saying he missed his
teachers and his classmates.
SUCCESS!!!

Ryker will be in kindergarten this fall!
He will be at the school for 2 years with
his sister, Addie and cousin, Carter.

4.0 JAYCIE

I would have gone to the
9th Grade Award Night
 for Jaycie.
Instead, they had those getting awards
meet at the Water Gardens makeshift
drive-in theater.

LORDY, LORDY. LOOK WHO'S 40!

On May 24, 1980, my very first nephew was born.
Christopher Reid Mitchell was born on a
kind of snow Saturday.

My best friend had been an aunt since she was
in 2nd grade!!!  My other good friends had been aunts
for awhile, too.

This picture was taken the day after Chris
came home from the hospital.
He was at Grandma Nammy and Grandpa Shyrlan's
home so they could help Laurel.

I know, check out my Farrah Fawsett hair.
It feathered back nicely that day.

The oldest of them all, is 40 today! My nephew, Chris, was born at my
ripe old age of 21! Three months later, I began my teaching career.
He was my sidekick at many events...especially BYU football and
Utah Jazz games!
He was born first, followed by: 1 nephew, 4 nieces, 6 spouses,
18 1/2 great nieces and nephews.
The second photo was taken last year at his daughter’s high school graduation.
She, like her dad, is the oldest of her generation.

ELEMENTARY GRADUATION

Beginnings & Endings

I retired from teaching 33 years in May, 2013.

Haley began Kindergarten in the 2013-2014 school year.
I believe she did the first half of Kindergarten at
Westmore Elementary in Orem,
then they moved to Goshen.

Aunt Ann and the Kindergarten graduate.

Haley graduated from Goshen Elementary School in May, 2020.
The year of the Corona Virus.
Haley is in the last 6th grade class at Goshen Elementary.
Nebo District is changing to having
Elementary Schools: K-5
Middle Schools:  6-9

So, Goshen Elementary will be K-5

Payson Middle will be 8-9
Payson High School will be 10-12

Haley will graduate in 2026

RIP, COACH

Coach Jerry Sloan passed away May 22, 2020.
He was the youngest of 10 children.
His father passed away when he was 4.
After playing 2 days for Evansville College,
he decided to quit.
Two days later, the plane carrying the entire
team and staff was killed in a plane crash.

The pictures are in random order:

(You have to be out of the NBA for 5 years before
you can be considered for induction.)

When you are inducted into the Hall of Fame,
you have to be introduced by someone already
