SIX WEEKS

Here is Ashley's Instagram post 6 weeks after her brain surgery.
My 32 year old niece.
Four Children:
Girl, 5th grade   boy, 2nd grade   girl, Kindergarten   boy 1 (2 weeks after surgery)
Well I made it to 6 weeks in this recovery process. I am not going to lie it has been a challenge, but I am so so thankful that we found the Aneurysm when we did. And that it is all taken care of. I can't tell you how many times I have been told by people " oh I know someone who died of an Aneurysm. " 😬 I am so thankful for the support of my family, friends, and ward family, without you guys this process would have been unbelievably difficult!‪#‎brainaneurysmsurvivor‬ ‪#‎6weekspostop‬

SHARK TANK

Rachel Hofheins appeared on Shark Tank.
Her children's clothing line was amazing!!!
It's a one piece romper, that the neck stretches out
for them to pull down!

I taught her sisters, Becca & Aspen.

Rachel Hofheins . . . making Alpine Elementary proud!!!

MAHLER'S SYMPHONY NO. 8

On Saturday, February 20,
Jane and I went to the Tabernacle
on Temple Square to see the
Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the
Choristers of the Madeleine Choir School
perform Mahler's Symphony no. 8 with
the Utah Symphony.
It was sooooo amazing!
There were 2 parts to it, and it
lasted 90 minutes.
You could really feel the music!

LONE PEAK FREEDOM ASSEMBLY

IN 1902, AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL WAS BORN.
IT WAS HELD UPSTAIRS ABOVE THE OLD
BANK OF AMERICAN FORK BUILDING ON THE CORNER
OF MAIN STREET AND CENTER STREET.
IT IS STILL THERE TODAY, WITH THE GIANT CLOCK
RECENTLY RESTORED TO WORKING CONDITION.

IN 1912, THE SCHOOL MOVED TO IT'S LOCATION SOUTH
OF THE AMERICAN FORK CEMETERY, ON NORTH CENTER STREET.
THEY LATER ADDED A BIG ADDITION, TO HOUSE THE JUNIOR HIGH.

IN 1963, A NEW HIGH SCHOOL WAS BUILT AT ITS CURRENT LOCATION.
510 NORTH 600 EAST.
(600 EAST AKA CAVEMAN BLVD)
AT THAT TIME, THE OLD HIGH SCHOOL BECAME SOLELY THE JUNIOR HIGH
UNTIL THE MID-1980s.

A FEW THINGS WERE HELD AT THE EMPTY BUILDING.
DEBATE MEETS FOR HIGH SCHOOL,
UTAH PAGEANT OF THE ARTS, THE MOVIE "TAKE DOWN"
WAS FILMED THERE, ETC.
IT WAS THEN TORN DOWN, AND THE NEW REC CENTER WAS BUILT
AT THAT LOCATION.

BUT IN THE MID-1990s, AMERICAN FORK WAS
BULGING AT THE SEAMS!
IT WAS DETERMINED THAT A HIGH SCHOOL
WOULD BE BUILT TO INCLUDE THE COMMUNITIES OF
ALPINE, CEDAR HILLS, AND HIGHLAND.

MY STUDENTS THAT I TAUGHT SINCE MY FIRST YEAR
OF TEACHING IN 1980 UNTIL RETIREMENT IN 2013,
ATTENDED AMERICAN FORK, THEN LONE PEAK.

ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19,
LONE PEAK HIGH SCHOOL HELD ITS ANNUAL
FREEDOMS ASSEMBLY.
I ATTENDED AS A BOARD MEMBER OF
FREEDOMS FOUNDATION AT VALLEY FORGE.

IT WAS AMAZING!!!

YOU KNOW SOMETHING EXCITING IS COMING
WHEN YOU SEE THIS!

THESE 3 STUDENTS WERE INTRODUCED.
COLE HARTLEY, JACOB NEWELL, AND HANNAH CHADWICK.
THEY WILL BE ATTENDING FFVF IN MARCH AND APRIL.
ALL 3 ATTENDED ALPINE ELEMENTARY!!!

THESE 2 GIRLS WON AT THE DISTRICT HISTORY FAIR.
THEY WILL COMPETE AT THE REGIONALS AT UVU.
THE GIRL ON THE RIGHT IS MAREN BURGESS.
MAREN WAS ONE OF MY STUDENTS.
LAST YEAR AS A 9TH GRADER, SHE WON THE HISTORY FAIR
IN THE STATE OF UTAH!!!
SHE ATTENDED THE NATIONAL COMPETITION LAST SUMMER.
DEFINITELY A PROUD MISS MITCHELL MOMENT!!!

THERE WAS ALSO A GIRL WHO WON THE
PROVO FREEDOM FESTIVAL ESSAY CONTEST.

THE GUEST SPEAKER WAS JOHN BYTHEWAY.
HE IS A YOUTH MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER,
 SPEAKING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
THEY GAVE HIM A LONE PEAK CAP AND HOODIE JACKET.
YOU CAN SURE TELL HOW MUCH HE LOVED HIS JACKET!!!

HE WAS SUCH A GREAT SPEAKER!
THE STUDENTS LOVED HIM!

I LOVED THIS QUOTE THAT HE GAVE:

IT IS BETTER TO BE RESPECTED THAN IT IS TO BE POPULAR.
POPULARITY ENDS ON YEARBOOK DAY,
BUT RESPECT LASTS FOREVER.

THEN, THEY PRESENTED A VIDEO
ABOUT DIVERSITY.
IT'S NOT ABOUT RACE, NATIONALITY, ETC.
BUT DIVERSITY IN INDIVIDUALS.

THE GIRL ON THE LEFT IS KELLI CAPEL,
ANOTHER ONE OF MY FORMER STUDENTS.

THE CHAMBER CHOIR SANG.
VERY IMPRESSIVE!

JACOB, COLE, & HANNAH

JACOB, COLE AND HANNAH WITH THEIR PRINCIPAL,
RHONDA BROMLEY.

AFTER THE ASSEMBLY, I WENT THROUGH THE
"FREEDOM HALLS."
SOOOO AMAZING & INSPIRING!!!

 THIS WAS VERY CLEVER.
9-11
THE TWIN TOWERS WITH THE SMOKE.

AND THE FIREMEN RAISING THE AMERICAN FLAG.

STUDENTS WROTE ON POST IT NOTES
WHAT THEY WANTED TO DO FOR A CAREER.

I LOVED THIS!
STUDENTS AND FACULTY WROTE ON A SLIP
OF PAPER A RELATIVE WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES
AND THEIR NAME.

LOVED THESE DECORATIONS
BETWEEN LOCKERS

I SEE THAT ANDREW IS JUNIOR CLASS PRESIDENT!
NO SURPRISE THERE...HE WAS A LEADER
EVEN BACK IN THE 5TH GRADE!
PROUD MISS MITCHELL MOMENT!

5TH GRADER ANDREW

THESE PICTURES HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH
THE ASSEMBLY, BUT, THIS SHOWS
PART OF WHY LONE PEAK IS SO GREAT!
(AND...LONE PEAK IS LESS THAN 20 YEARS OLD!)
