MADDIE

OH, HOW I LOVE & ADORE MADDIE!
SHE IS MY "GRANDSTUDENT!"
HER MOM, JESSICA EVANS, WAS IN
MY 5TH CLASS.
I ALSO TAUGHT MADDIE'S AUNT JODI,
UNCLE JONNY, HER SISTER ELIZABETH,
AND BROTHER, THOMAS.
MADDIE IS THE OLDEST OF SEVEN CHILDREN!

WHEN MADDIE WAS IN 5TH GRADE,
SHE LOOKED A LOT LIKE HER MOM DID
IN 5TH GRADE, BUT A TINIER VERSION.

SOOO SWEET, AND KIND, AND LAID BACK.

I DON'T KNOW THEIR STORY,
BUT MADDIE & KARL MET ON THEIR
MISSION IN KANSAS!
SHE WAS FROM ALPINE.
HE WAS FROM LINDON.

MADDIE WAS ALSO SOOOO ARTISTIC!
QUITE THE ORIGINAL INVITES:

MARRIED AT THE MANTI TEMPLE
ON AUGUST 11.

I TAUGHT MADDIE, ELIZABETH (2ND FROM RIGHT),
AND THOMAS (WHITE SHIRT)

SO, WHEN I HEADED BACK TO MY CAR AFTER THE RECEPTION,
I SAW THIS ITTY BITTY CAR PARKED BEHIND ME!
LOOKS LIKE MY CAR GAVE BIRTH TO A BABY CAR!

WHEN I LOOKED IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR,
YOU COULDN'T EVEN SEE IT!

RIP, BRAIDEN

I was able to teach Braiden in science 5 years ago.
I taught all of his siblings.
Ashley, Matt, and Andrea.

Ashley is married to Adonna's son, Skylar.

2001–2016

Braiden LaVell Albrecht our inquisitive little brother and beloved son joined our Heavenly Father and his pal Aunt Ruthie on Friday, August 5, 2016. Braiden will always be remembered for his free-spirit and curious, easy-going personality.
Braiden was born October 29, 2001. At the age of eighteen months we were blessed to have him join our family. Braiden was raised in Alpine, Utah by his devoted parents Mitchell and Jean Albrecht. From the moment we first saw Braiden we knew he was part of our eternal family.
Braiden had a gifted mechanical mind. He could put together any Lego set or complex robotic with ease. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together better than he found them. Braiden had a gift for and loved to work with wood. He was a kind, gentle and loving uncle to his young nephews. Braiden was also a fun, clever and adventurous friend to his many cousins. He enjoyed spending time traveling with his parents and siblings and loved to be in Disneyland and Island Park, Idaho.
Braiden is loved tremendously, and his absence will be felt profoundly in the lives of those that loved him. Braiden is survived by his parents, Mitchell and Jean Albrecht; siblings, Ashley (Skylar) Iverson, Matthew Albrecht, and Andrea Albrecht; nephews Daxton and Tucker Iverson; Grandparents Ruth Christiansen and Karen (Newell) Larsen; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his Grandfathers Virgil Albrecht and Cloyd Christiansen; Uncles Grieg Christiansen and Vince Albrecht; Aunt Ruthann Hansen; cousins Jason Strong and Seth Albrecht.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, August 12, 2016, in the Alpine Stake Center (98 E Canyon Crest Rd, Alpine, UT). Family and friends may visit with the family Friday morning between 10:00 –11:30 am, prior to services at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery following the services. Condolences may be offered to the family online atwww.walkersanderson.com.

ABBY

Abby Dahlgren was my "reader" student!
At times, you could barely see her at her desk
because of the stack of books!
I eventually had her stack her books on the counter,
and could only keep 1 at her desk!

Abby's new husband is Margie Perkins's son!
Margie teaches at Alpine Elementary!

2016 SUMMER OLYMPICS

AUGUST 5 - 21, 2016

IT'S BEEN 14 YEARS SINCE THE 2002 WINTER OLYMPICS
WERE HELD IN SALT LAKE CITY.
FIVE MONTHS AFTER 9-11.

YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE
OLYMPIC SPIRIT UNTIL YOU'RE
A PART OF IT!!!

GOING TO AF MAIN STREET
TO WATCH THE TORCH RELAY,
ATTENDING EVENTS
(CURLING, WITH THE ALPINE ELEMENTARY KIDDOS),
ATTENDING THE OLYMPIC PARK EVERY SATURDAY
DURING THE OLYMPICS,
COLLECTING PINS,
ALL WAS FABULOUS!!!

THE PREVIOUS SUMMER OLYMPICS WERE
HELD IN LONDON, ENGLAND.
I HAD JUST RETURNED FROM MY
"PRESIDENTIAL HOME TOURS OF VIRGINIA" TRIP.

AFTER, I WAS GETTING READY TO BEGIN
MY 33RD YEAR OF TEACHING.
(I DIDN'T KNOW IT WOULD BE MY LAST.)
I HAD THE TV TURNED INTO THE  OLYMPIC BROADCASTS IN
MY CLASSROOM WHILE I WAS GETTING MY ROOM READY.

THE 31ST SUMMER OLYMPICS WERE HELD
IN RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL.

THERE WAS A LOT OF CONTROVERSY AS
THE TIME WAS CLOSER.
NOT ENOUGH SECURITY.
THE WATER WHERE RAFTING, CANOEING,
KAYAKING, ETC. WAS POLLUTED.
AND THE ZIKA VIRUS.
THIS VIRUS WAS DANGEROUS FOR
PREGNANT WOMEN.
IT CAUSES SEVERE BIRTH DEFECTS
FOR THE CHILD.
(TODAY SHOW ANCHOR, SAVANNAH GUTHRIE,
DID NOT GO, BECAUSE SHE IS PREGNANT.)

THE PURPOSE OF THE OPENING CEREMONIES IS
FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

1.  CULTURAL HIGHLIGHTS OF THE HOST COUNTRY.

CLIMATE CHANGE

RAIN FOREST

"THE GIRL FROM IPANEMA"
IS A FAMOUS SONG FROM THE 60s ABOUT THE MOST
GORGEOUS BRAZILIAN GIRL AT THE
IPANEMA BEACH.
PLAYING THIS GIRL, A WORLD FAMOUS MODEL
CAME OUT OF RETIREMENT.
HER NAME?  GISELE BÜNDCHEN.
HER SPOUSE IS ALSO FAMOUS.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOT & SUPER BOWL CHAMP,
TOM BRADY.

SALSA DANCING

THESE BICYCLES PROCEEDED EACH COUNTRY.
IN THE BICYCLE CONTAINS SEEDS THAT EACH
ATHLETE PLANTED, AND WILL BE PLANTED IN BRAZIL.

2.  PARADE OF NATIONS.

ALL (MOST) PARTICIPATING
ATHLETES ENTER THE STADIUM WITH
THEIR COUNTRY.

TEAM USA
FLAG BEARER IS MICHAEL PHELPS

SOME OF USA BASKETBALL PLAYERS

HELLOOOOO, TONGA!
AND THANK YOU!!!

SEVERAL REFUGEES, PEOPLE WHO HAD ESCAPED
FROM THEIR DANGEROUS COUNTRIES,
WERE ABLE TO COMPETE.  FIRST TIME FOR REFUGEES.
HERE THEY ARE ENTERING THE STADIUM, AND
THEY MARCH BEHIND THE OLYMPIC FLAG,
SINCE THEY DON'T HAVE A COUNTRY.

3.  OLYMPIC FLAG ENTERS THE STADIUM.

4.  WELCOMING ATHLETES AND GUESTS.

5.  LIGHTING THE TORCH.

6.  CELEBRATION

THE CHRIST STATUE IS LIT IN THE BRAZILIAN COLORS

TRIVIA CRACK

Trivia Crack is my new favorite internet game.
It is played all over the world!
In most cases, it's a random person I play against.
But, I play a lot against Kaisa Lee, a parent
of a former student.  Also, Cassie Bagley,
former ward member and friend.
And, I play in to keep my mind sharp!
(Trying to avoid Dimentia & Alazheimers)

This is the wheel that you spin.

These are the categories (left to right)
Geography, Science, Art, Entertainment, History, Sports

I always do the categories in the

exact same order.
Every time.
1.  History
2.  Geography
3. Sports
4.  Art
5.  Entertainment
6.  Science

Each week, you see your ranking,
if you are in the top 3 of your level.
Low and behold, look who is #1
of Level 145!!!

DEACON

On Sunday, August 7,
Cole was ordained a deacon.
This was the first priesthood ordinations
I have witnessed since Kai & Corley Bagley.

Lori's dad, Papa Davey ordained him.
Papa Reid, McKay, and the bishop
also stood in the circle.

I-15 on a Sunday is a very pleasant experience!

AUGUST

FOR ABOUT MY FIRST 25 YEARS OR SO OF TEACHING,
I LOVED AUGUST!
I WAS EXCITED TO GET BACK TO SCHOOL!
I WAS ALSO SOOOO HAPPY TO SEE ALL OF
MY TEACHER FRIENDS AND STAFF
AT ALPINE ELEMENTARY!
WE HADN'T SEEN EACH OTHER ALL SUMMER!!!
I  LOVED SEEING THE 6TH GRADERS
THAT I HAD TAUGHT THE YEAR BEFORE.

I ALSO HAD A FEW TRIPS IN AUGUST.
HAWAII WITH NANCY.
TWO TRIPS TO DISNEY WORLD WITH CONRAD.
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
WITH REID, LAUREL, CHRIS, CAMILLE, ASHLEY, AND McKAY.

I SPENT MANY SUMMERS TAKING A FEW WORKSHOPS
FOR LANE CHANGE CREDIT . . . WHEN I DECIDED TO TAKE THEM.
HELPING CONRAD WITH SUMMER ORCHESTRA
AND MERRILL OSMOND WITH THE
"DRAPER PIONEER PAGEANT."

BUT, THAT CHANGED ABOUT 2005.
WE ALWAYS HAD TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOPS.
TEAM COLLABORATION.
SUMMER WAS NEVER MINE.
(WELL, I DID HAVE A FEW HISTORY TRIPS!)
WHEN AUGUST CAME, I WOULD GET A KNOT IN MY STOMACH.

SUMMER (WHAT I HAD OF IT) WAS OVER.
IT JUST GOT HARDER AND HARDER.
OUR "CAREER LADDER DAYS" WERE DROPPED FROM
8 TO 2...AND THE 2 WERE PRINCIPAL DIRECTED.
NO MORE GETTING PAID FOR GETTING YOUR ROOM READY,
ORGANIZING DESK, FILE CABINETS, CREATING NEW UNITS.

OH, NOT TO MENTION COMMON CORE!

IF I HAD NOT RETIRED, THIS WOULD HAVE
BEEN MY SCHEDULE:

DAY AFTER SCHOOL WAS OUT:
SCIENCE WORKSHOP

THE NEXT WEEK:
MATH COMMON CORE TRAINING

THE NEXT MONDAY:
ROPES COURSE TRAINING AT CLEAR CREEK

5 DAYS OF COLLABORATION
(EXCEPT 1 TEAM MEMBER WANTED 10 HALF DAYS.)

GETTING CLASSROOM, WORK, ETC. READY
AT NO PAY.

THIS IS HOW I USED TO BE FROM ABOUT
THE YEAR 2005-2013.

AND NOW . . .
BEGINNING YEAR #4 OF RETIREMENT!!!
AND, IT'S STILL THE BEST!!!

MELODY

I first knew Melody Wood when she was in kindergarten.
Her brother, Tyler, was in my class.
She would come down and sit by my room after kindergarten.
I would then send Tyler to walk her home and for lunch.

Melody was a sweet, fun loving, positive girl.
Soooo nice and kind to everyone!

The biggest surprise was that my mom
was her mom's 2nd grade teacher . . . in St. George!!!
