RISE & SHOUT! THE COUGARS ARE NOT BACK OUT

The majority of those voting on our poll, wanted BYU to win. But, the University of Utah prevailed. Miss Mitchell has a former student who is the long snapper for the U. Utah has a 12-0 undefeated season---the best in the nation! However, they are only #6 in the polls, with 4 teams ahead of them with a loss. Thanks to the BCS, Utah does not have a chance to win the National Championship, even if they win their bowl game, and the current #1 team loses. How sad! In the pre-BCS days, you had a chance to be #1 in the nation if you went undefeated---as demonstrated by BYU in 1984. Utah will be "BCS Busters" for the 2nd time in 5 years!

MANNERS

On November 20, we had a mini unit on "Manners." We had to wear nice clothes for the day. We learned several tasks, and then had to pass them off with our partner. We had to pull out chairs, help with coats, open doors, and make introductions. We also ate Thanksgiving lunch in the classroom, and practiced eating with good manners. After lunch, we had a choice to go out to recess, or participate in one more activity. Those who chose the activity, were rewarded with a game called, "Please Pass the Candy."

MY FAVORITE BEAR!

My favorite bear is "Bear" from the Utah Jazz! This is a picture of Bear with 3 of his favorite people; me, Mrs. Iverson, and Mrs. Wiser.
Mrs. Wiser taught 5th grade at our school from 1992-2000. She also sings in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!

EARLY EXPLORER UNIT

VIKING SHIP
VIKING SHIP

We just finished up our "Early Explorer" unit. We learned about many explorers from England, Spain, France, Italy, and Portugal. We also learned about navigation, sagas, mysteries, and great explorers such as Christopher Columbus and the Vikings. (No, not the Pleasant Grove Vikings!) Some of the things we did were: maps, vocabulary, Viking Writing, and a fun game called "Explorer To Tell The Truth."
Once again, to get a good grade on the test, we really had to study!

Receiving 100% on the test was Tyler!
Way to go!

Others who scored well on the test were:
Brook --- 99%
Wyatt --- 96%
Lauren & Elizabeth --- 95%
Madeleine --- 94%
Addie --- 92%
Katie, Hunter, & Ryan W. --- 91%
Liz & Caitlin --- 90%

For those who turned their units in on time, the scores were exceptional! Receiving the highest score in the class, with 106%, were Lauren and Tyler! Yeah!!!

Other fabulous scores were:
Elizabeth & Ryan W. --- 105%
Emily, Wyatt, Hunter, & Addie --- 104%
Liz --- 102%
Katie --- 100%
Brook --- 99%
Eli --- 97%
Elly --- 96%
Caitlin --- 95%
Madeleine --- 94%
Brandon --- 92%
Clara --- 90%

We had a fun Scavenger Hunt! We had to each find a Hawaiian lei, 4 marbles, a glow in the dark bouncy ball, a key chain, a friendship rope bracelet, and a back scratcher. The first 10 students with everything received a candy bar!

Photobucket
Mr. Stephenson explains "Mohawk Walk." We had to walk across cables with our spotter. We also swung on a rope, and walked holding on to suspended ropes that were spaced apart!

"Wild Woosey" was another "trust" activity. You had to walk across on cables, pushing on your partner's hands. Hunter and his partner, and Luke and his partner went the furthest!

"Nitro Crossing" is where we had to swing on a suspended rope over to a platform. Each person swung to the platform, and helped their teammates onto the platform.

"Whale Watch" is where we also tested our balancing skills. It was a balancing platform. We had to figure out how to get everyone in the group on, without having the ends touch.

Elizabeth's mom took us on a hike.

"T.P. Shuffle" tested our balancing skills. We had to try to walk from one end of the log to the other. There were kids coming from both sides, and we had to change places with each other in the middle.

Photobucket
We had fun playing Bingo. Ryan W. wonders if he will ever win!

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
"Cups" was an interesting activity. We had to work together as a team. We had to stack cups, and build a pyramid, with elastic and string going over them.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
"Sandtrap" was an experience in trust. We had to trust our partner to help us maneuver through the sandtrap while we were blindfolded.

Mr. Stephenson taught us a fun math game called "Uncle Bay."

Before going to our cabins for the night, we got our sleeping bags and pillows, changed into our pajamas, and watched a movie. We had the school popcorn machine, and had a bag of popcorn with treats inside. We also had juice, carrots, celery, apples, oranges, and a glow stick (but not to eat). Thanks to Mrs. Hoover, our fabulous secretary, for treat shopping!
