LORDY, LORDY. LOOK WHO'S 40!

On May 24, 1980, my very first nephew was born.
Christopher Reid Mitchell was born on a
kind of snow Saturday.

My best friend had been an aunt since she was
in 2nd grade!!!  My other good friends had been aunts
for awhile, too.

This picture was taken the day after Chris
came home from the hospital.
He was at Grandma Nammy and Grandpa Shyrlan's
home so they could help Laurel.

I know, check out my Farrah Fawsett hair.
It feathered back nicely that day.

The oldest of them all, is 40 today! My nephew, Chris, was born at my
ripe old age of 21! Three months later, I began my teaching career.
He was my sidekick at many events...especially BYU football and
Utah Jazz games!
He was born first, followed by: 1 nephew, 4 nieces, 6 spouses,
18 1/2 great nieces and nephews.
The second photo was taken last year at his daughter’s high school graduation.
She, like her dad, is the oldest of her generation.

THE GIFTS THAT KEEP ON GIVING

It is a 2020 Miracle
on May 1st!!!

I have every
birthday

present

and

present
(ignore words Happy New Year, and think Christmas)

I grew up buying presents for my
parents and 1 brother, and a handful of friends.

NOW???
Mom
Brother
Sister in law
4 Nieces
2 Nephews
6 Spouses of the nieces & nephews
19 great nieces and nephews
9 friends

43 Total

I always get the kids a book from the
"Buy 1 Get 1 Free" Book Fair at
Alpine Elementary.
I had to order all from Scholastic.
No discount.

Besides the book, the kids all get
another gift.
Usually not more than $15.

Total kids:  19

Nieces, Nephews, & Spouses
all get a $50 gift card and a
Jazz game.
This year, a few did not get their
game because of, you know, Corona Virus.
So they will get their game + make-up game.

Total nieces, nephews, & spouses:  12

Brother:  Sports Illustrated renewed
Sister in Law:  $50 Gift Card
Jazz Game

Friends:  9

The only gift I need to get is for my mom,
and 1 1st Christmas ornament.
I usually get 3-4 new ornaments for
my Disney trees.

I used these sites:
Bath & Body Works
Scholastic
Amazon
Utah Jazz

The total is probably close to:
$4500 - $5000
(This includes my lower bowl
Jazz tickets)

Now, I need to put them in their gift bags.
I do not wrap!!!
I'm terrible at it!!!
I buy my gift bags and tissue paper
at the
Dollar Tree
across from Lone Peak High.
I always keep a good stash, but
I'll need more . . . and someone to
to "wrap" them.

15

THIS GIRL.
IS 15!
SHE IS WRAPPING UP HER
MIDDLE SCHOOL YEARS, AND WILL
BE A SOPHOMORE IN HIGH SCHOOL NEXT YEAR!
HOW COULD THAT BE???

MY FAVORITE TIME WITH JAYCIE WAS WHEN
SHE WENT TO THE PRESCHOOL AT
MY SCHOOL.
AT THE END OF MY HALL!
IT WAS SOOO MUCH FUN!
JAYCIE WENT IN THE AFTERNOON.
ASHLEY PARKED BEHIND MY CAR TO BRING
HER AND PRESTON IN, TO SIGN JAYCIE IN.
IT WAS FUN WALKING BY AND PEEKING IN
TO SEE WHAT SHE WAS DOING!
MY STUDENTS LOVED HER, AND EVERY TIME
THEY SAW HER, THEY'D SAY,
"HI, JAYCIE!"

ONCE IN AWHILE, WE'D STAY AFTER SCHOOL
AND SHE WOULD HELP ME WITH A PROJECT,
A BULLETIN BOARD, ETC.

I TOOK HER HOME EVERYDAY AFTER SCHOOL.
SOMETIMES WE'D GET A TREAT,
SOMETIMES GET OUR NAILS DONE,
BUT ALWAYS SOOO FUN.
ON FRIDAYS, I MET HER MOM IN THE
PARKING LOT OF THE TEMPLE, SINCE
THAT WAS MY DAY TO WORK.
WHEN THE TEMPLE WAS CLOSED FOR
THE 2 WEEK CLEANING, WE'D HAVE
A LITTLE OUTING.

BIRTHDAYS NOW ARE DIFFERENT.
WE DO A PARADE TO THE BIRTHDAY PERSON'S HOME.
SOCIAL DISTANCING IS OBSERVED . . . FOR AWHILE.

EVERY AUNT, COUSIN, GRANDMA, GREAT GRANDMA,
AND GREAT AUNT WERE THERE.
ONLY AUNT KATIE (WORKING AT UTAH VALLEY) AND
KAI (HOME WITH DAD WHILE MOM WORKS) WERE THERE.

JAYCIE IS A DREAM CHILD!
SHE IS SOOO KIND, CONSIDERATE, AND HELPFUL.
SHE ALWAYS MAKES THE HONOR ROLL AT SCHOOL.

WHEN IS WAS STATE ADK PRESIDENT, THE CHAPTER
THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THE STATE CONVENTION
DROPPED OUT, JAYCIE ACTUALLY SPOKE AT THE
CONVENTION, BECAUSE SHE WANTS TO BE A TEACHER!

NO ONE IS A BETTER BIG SISTER THAN JAYCIE!
SHE IS ALSO THE BEST HELPER!

SHE IS AN EXACT CLONE OF HER MOTHER!!!

NO, AUNT ANN DID NOT PARK THIS WAY!

I HAD TO DELIVER HER GIFT LATER,
BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW IN COMING.
EVERY SOPHOMORE NEEDS A SCH0OL SHIRT
WITH HER GRADUATION YEAR ON IT!

NAME THIS BUILDING

Where was this photo taken???
When was this photo taken???
Name this building:

I found this photo on a Facebook group page.
It is a Facebook group called:
"Remembering St. George."

This is a building in St. George.
The name of the building is the:
Dixie Pioneer Memorial Hospital.

The time period is the 1950's.
I was born in this hospital in 1958.
This is what it looked like when I was born.

The hospital was located east, across the street from
the St. George LDS Temple.

When I returned to attend Dixie Jr College in 1976,
it had changed.  They had several different medical offices
inside.  Even a psychiatric ward!

Here are some photos of my birthplace:
When the trees were small.
Did my mom enter these doors to bring me into the world?
Did she come here on October 25?

The trees grew

The back side of the hospital with the temple
and the black "D" mountain in the background

Here's the lobby where she entered

Did she help my mom?
Marie Cottam at the switchboard

I was born here

I was taken to the nursery after I was born,
on October 26, 1958
6:03 in the morning

Was my mom in one of these beds after I was born?

Food for my mom and dad was made in this kitchen

In the laundry, everything was ironed

60 . . . SERIOUSLY???

Sixty

60

SAY WHAT???

I never in my wildest dreams thought
I would ever be this old!!!

When my Grandma Mitchell was 60,
it was 1963.
She was living with us in St. George.
I was in Kindergarten.

When my Grandma & Grandpa Howard were 60,
it was 1970.
I was in 7th grade.

When my dad was 60, it was 1988.
It was my 8th year of teaching.

When my mom was 60, it was 1995.
It was my 15th year of teaching, and she
was in her 35th year of teaching,
with 3 more to go.

When my brother was 60, it was 2017,
and I was 59,
and in my 4th year of retirement.

When I was 60, it was 2018.
I was in my 5th year of retirement.
All 6 of my nieces and nephews were married.
I had 16 great nieces and nephews.
I moved to a brand new condo in 2006.

If you've got to be 60 . . . do it in style!!!
Cierra did my hair.
Shalana & Cierra gave me
balloons, treat, and Diet Coke!

I had a great surprise when I got home.
Even though I would have the usual family party,
Ashley, Ryker, and Heidi made my day special!!!

Too bad the screen was blurry!

90

September 8, 1928
The day my dad was born.

June 14, 2003
The day my dad passed away.
Age 74.

September 8, 2018
Today, my dad would have been 90 years old.
He was 30 years old when I was born.
That means next month, I will be
30 years less than 90!
