RISE & SHOUT! THE COUGARS ARE BACK OUT!!!
Fall is in the air! The leaves haven't turned yet, it was 95 degrees at 9:00 p.m., but . . . BYU football season has started!
There's nothing better than a Saturday afternoon at LaVell Edwards Stadium!
Former All American and Super Bowl champion quarterback, Jim McMahon (the quarterback when I attended BYU), carried the alumni flag.
The BYU flags travel around the stadium after each score.
Tradition . . . Spirit . . . Honor. This is a motto of BYU football. The half time ceremonies had the All American quarterbacks to announce their endowment of the quarterback scholarships at BYU. In attendance were QBs Virgil Carter, Gifford Nielsen, Marc Wilson, Steve Young, Robbie Bosco, Heisman trophy winner...Ty Detmer, and Steve Sarkisian (who was in the Washington locker room, as the head coach.) Also, AD Tom Holmoe, BYU President Cecil O. Samuelson, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, and legendary coach, LaVell Edward were honored!
Afternoon turns into evening.
Makay Tautu, Cathy Tibbitts (former teacher at Alpine Elementary), me, friend Cassie, Pele Tautu, and Brad Tibbitts. Makay and Pele's son, Sae, is on the team! Sae's grandma taught 1st and 6th grades at Alpine! Sae's brother, Tyson, is a member of our class!

A PROUD MISS MITCHELL MOMENT!
This is a former student of mine, Joe Phillips. Joe was a walk on to the University of Utah Running Utes as the kicker. The Utes were playing Pittsburg in their home opener on September 2. The game went into overtime. Pitt threw an interception, and Joe then kicked a field goal, winning the game!
Even though I have never been a Utah fan, except for bowl games, I root for former students! Way to go, Joe!!!
