STATES OF MATTER DAY

We were able to have a girl from the Discovery Museum at the Gateway in Salt Lake City.  She taught us a lot about physical and chemical changes!

Creating colors

Three powders...three different colors

John was able to help.

Making a "burp."

The more she mixed this, the more it grew!

After the grade level assembly, each class was able to experiment!

Paul, Mariah, and Josh

Cedric, Blake, Preston, Tyson

John, Garrett, Jacob

Callie, Syd S., Brynna

Brynna and Syd C.

Camden and Maren

Zane, Bryant, and John

We mixed different liquids. Then, we had to write down what happened.  They did a lot of different things...like bubbling over, or getting warm.

hApPy BiRtHdAy, bAiLeY!

On April 8, Bailey turned 11 years old!  Bailey has 1 brother and 2 sisters, and is anxiously waiting for another one!
Bailey's favorite colors are hot pink, baby blue, white, lime green, and black.  Her favorite food is mashed potatoes and gravy, and she also loves to sew and sail.
Favorite trips have been to Arizona and Disneyland!  Bailey's favorite subjects in school are P.E. and art.  She is our BEST cursive girl writer...and is an exceptional artist!  Bailey is also kind and helpful to all!
Bailey is a "grandstudent" of Miss Mitchell!  Her dad, Darrin Bennett, was a 5th grade student in Miss Mitchell's third class!

 Happy Birthday, Bailey!

MARCH MADNESS

There's a new season added to the calendar every year . . .
 it's called . . .

Our poll question of who would win the NCAA Men's basketball tournament, our results were:

1.  Butler   54%
2.  Kentucky   18%
3.  VCU   18%
4.  UCONN  9%

The "Final Four" is such a HUGE deal these days!
Many cities clamor to host it!

They even have their own logo every year!

The Final Four really started to take off when Salt Lake City was the host!
It wasn't so much the host city...as who played in the finals:

Magic Johnson of Michigan State
defeated
Larry Bird of Indiana State

These two were two of the best to ever play the game!
They dueled it out for years,
when Magic played for the LA Lakers...
...and Larry played for the Boston Celtics.

Salt Lake City has never hosted the Final Four since.

They did, however, host two "Sweet Sixteen"games and one "Elite Eight" game last year.
 Outside Energy Solutions Arena

Lots of sports media were there.

My nephew and I went to these games.
(Look closely, and you'll see all ads, logos, etc. were covered.)
 We got to see
Syracuse, Xavier, Kansas State, and Butler.

In 1998, Utah played in the championship game against Kentucky.
They had a 10 point lead at half time, but lost.

This year in the Final Four were:

University of Kentucky

VCU  (Virginia Christian University)

The championship game was between . . .

and

With the winners...
UCONN Huskies

ST. PATRICK'S DAY VISITORS

These cute leprechauns come to visit me each year!
They are sisters.
I taught Jodie...the one on the left.
One leprechaun, Jessica, was absent this visit.
She was preparing for some big dinner.
I have taught 3 of Jessica's children!
It isn't St. Patrick's without their visit!
