WORLD SERIES
THE PHILADELPHIA PHIILIES ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS! After a game 5 rain delay, the Phillies quickly won the series 3 - 1 over the Tampa Bay Rays. Our class wanted the Tampa Rays, but Miss Mitchell's team, the Phillies, prevailed. (Miss Mitchell's vote was only a city she had been to)

TIME TO VOTE!
HIGHLIGHT OF RED RIBBON WEEK!
The highlight of Red Ribbon Week was seeing the inflation of the Bank of American Fork pig balloon at our school! It was so fun to see how it all happens! Our eagle actually went for a ride in the balloon!
Mr. Francis, our art teacher, was able to help!
Hopefully, no drivers were distracted by a flying pink pig!

HALLOWEEN COUNTDOWN!
There is one week left before Halloween! This is a HUGE day for the kids! First, all 5th graders will come to school dressed in their U.S. History Wax Museum costume. The Wax Museum will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Students will then give an oral presentation to the class about their person. If they haven't previously turned in their written report, they will also turn that in. Our Halloween party will be from 2:20 - 3:20 p.m. Wendy and Laurie, our FABULOUS room mothers, will contact parents for party assignments. We watch the school parade. If a student wants to wear their Halloween costume, they can change into it at the 2:00 recess. Because this is an "end of month activity", students will still need to meet the requirements. So far, 13 students have qualified. Most just need a couple of SRAs, and 1 or 2 book reports.
We will also have a "Pumpkin Decorating Contest". This is OPTIONAL! Students who would like to participate, will bring a decorated character pumpkin to school that morning. It CANNOT be carved! Each student who participates will receive a "little something" for their efforts.
After the party, the kids go home, go "Trick - Or - Treating", and get to stay home for two more days!

SHIPWRECK! AAAAHHH!!!
We learned a fun new game in P.E. It's called "Shipwreck." There are four sides to the ship; bow, stern, port, and starboard. When the part of the ship is called out, we all run to it. The last two students to get there are out.
When "Captain's Coming" is called, we stand at attention, and salute with our right hand.
"Hit the Deck" means we hurry and lay flat on our stomachs.
"Man Overboard" means you have to link arms with one other person.
The best one is "Row the Boat!" For tis one, you have to run and sit on the center line. The person at the "front" of the boat says, "ready, begin." Then the students in the boat start rowing, while they sing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat!" The last two students to do all of the actions on each call are out. A new game begins when there is one person left.
