I don't know if you can zoom in, but on the right, in the middle, just above the purple lettering (ZION BANK suite), is President Thomas S. Monson. He's a regular at the games.

INAUGURATION DAY 2009

Every four years, the person who won the presidential election the previous November, takes the presidential oath of office. This is called the Presidential Inauguration. It always takes place on January 20. This inauguration is most likely the first inauguration our students will remember. The first inauguration that Miss Mitchell remembers is President Richard Nixon's first inauguration!
Here is what Inauguation 2009 looked like:

After attending a church service, a tradition since 1815, President-elect and Mrs. Obama meet President and Mrs. Bush at the White House for coffee.

Malia, 10, and Sasha, 7, wait for their parents to arrive.

Vice President Joe Biden takes the oath of office first.

Aretha Franklin is a featured singer.
(If only I could look that great wearing a bow!)

Our new president, Barrack Obama takes the oath of office to become the 44th President of the United States.

President Obama takes the oath of office with his hand on the Bible that Abraham Lincoln used in the 1861 inauguration.

President Obama gives his first inaugural address.

This is the view that President Obama had during the ceremonies.

The speech must have been a hit, because Sasha gave her dad a thumbs up!

This is a view from space of the 2 million people who were at the inauguration. The best part was that with 2 million people, there was not one single arrest!

After the inauguration, the new president and Mrs. Obama say goodbye to former President and Mrs. Bush. They depart by helicopter, then go by plane to return to Crawford, Texas, where he is now a private citizen.

After signing a law and a luncheon, the new president goes from the capitol building to the White House to prepare for the parade. (And Mrs. Obama did it all in heels!)

Many secret service agents and SWAT teams were everywhere!

The family and invited guests watch the parade from a heated viewing box. The University of Utah marching band were participants!

At the end of the day, President and Mrs. Obama attended 13 Inaugural Balls! He spoke, and they danced at each ball. Here is a picture of their very first dance with Beyonce singing in the background.

A FIFTH GRADER IN THE WHITE HOUSE!

Finally, a fifth grader in the White House! Now, something can really get done! Malia Obama, daughter for our new president, Barrack Obama, moved into the White House on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. Even though she took lots of digital pictures of her father's inauguration, she was probably more excited for the "Kids Inaugural concert." It was probably the best to be seated on the front row for Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers!

UTAH WINS SUGAR BOWL! 13-0 UNDEFEATED SEASON!

Photobucket

I am a University of Utah fan, only when they're not playing BYU! I was thrilled when the U played in the Final Four and then for the championship in basketball, and cheered when they were undefeated in 2004 and won the Fiesta Bowl. Well, this year, Utah was the only college team to go undefeated, but because of the BCS, they were not #1 in the nation.
CONGRATS TO UTAH!

Clint's Acrobatics

This is a picture of Clint, a former student of mine! He also went to Dixie State, like me!!! I probably taught him this move in the 5th grade!!!
