HOW TO RETIRE FROM A FAMOUS CHOIR

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is known as "America's Choir." It was given this nickname by President Ronald Reagan. The choir originally began in 1847 when the Pioneers came to the Salt Lake Valley. They began to broadcast over 80 years ago. They are the oldest continuous broadcast in the nation!
The choir has traveled all over the world! They have sung for Royalty, presidents, and for regular people. They have sung at 5 U.S. Presidential Inaugurations, and the 2002 Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies. The father of one of our 5th grade friends is the voice of the choir!
Trying out for the choir is very rigorous! But once you're in, you're in! You are allowed to stay in the choir for 20 years, or age 60...whichever comes first.
My friend, Analee Wiser, was retiring from the choir in April. She taught 5th grade at Alpine Elementary for 8 years!

This is the view I had of the broadcast.

The cameraman in front of me ran a GINORMOUS camera! When he disassembled it, it had a lot of weights on it. He had to be really strong to run the camera!

President Monson spoke at the special retirement after the broadcast.

Mrs. Wiser retired with another friend of mine, Sterling Mortensen. They both teach at Forbes Elementary.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK

March 29-April 2 was "Teacher Appreciation Week." Each teacher had their door decorated with the theme: "Where Did You Go To College?" My door was soooo cute! I not only had BYU (Bachelor's Degree), but Dixie State College (Dixie Jr. when I was there...Associate's Degree), my favorite!!!

A great surprise were notes from some of the kids! The envelopes had a BYU sticker, and the card was written on Dixie State stationery!

Thanks to Mrs. Hansen & Mrs. Jensen, our fabulous room mothers! And also to Mr. Hansen for helping out!

SWEET!

My nephew, Chris and I, went to the Energy Solutions Arena to see the "Sweet 16"
and "Elite 8" in the NCAA Men's Basketball tournament! (Chris was always my "go-to"
companion for years to BYU football and Utah Jazz games.  Now, married, father of 2 girls
with a little boy on the way.)  In 3 games, we saw a #1 team eliminated, a double overtime game, and an underdog team from a midmajor conference
upset a #2 team! It was soooo fun!

The arena and atmosphere was really different!
If you did not know you had walked into the
Energy Solutions Arena, you would not know where you were!
Everything hanging from the rafters were taken down.
(Retured jerseys, etc.)
All adds were covered in black.
Of course, there was the tournament floor.

The atmosphere was different, too.
People were not as excited as they were at a Jazz game.
They were not invested in the teams.
The best part, was the NCAA does not sell beer!
There were also few kids running around.

LOOK CLOSELY AT THE MASCOTS!
Butler Bulldogs

Xavier Muskateer

Kansas State Wildcat

...and the cutest mascot of all...Syracuse Orangeman

Just a little post tournament info.
The Utah Jazz drafted one of the players
that played in this tournament from Butler . . . Gordon Hayward.
Hope he does well for the Jazz!

MEET MY NEWEST FAMILY MEMBER!

Meet Carter Chris Mitchell.

He is the newest member of my family! I currently have 5 great nieces, and Carter is my 3rd great nephew. In May, I will have my 6th great niece! (I only have 1 brother.)

Carter's dad is my oldest nephew, Chris. Chris was my buddy growing up...and we went to A LOT of BYU football and Jazz games together! We recently attended 2 "Sweet 16" games, and 1 "Elite 8" game. Chris was 3 months old when I began teaching school! So these games were celebrating his BIG 3-0 (May 24.)

Carter was born December 14, 2009.

Here is Carter with his family...dad, Chris...mom, Kim...sisters, Camry, 4 1/2, and Courtney, 9 1/2.
