600 MONTHS

My Uncle Bruce & Aunt Nadene have been married for
50 YEARS!!!
And, I totally remember it!!!
June 11, 1965.
I was a flower girl...6 years old.
Our dresses were yellow and sleeveless.
They were married at a reception center in Salt Lake City.
The next night, we went to Nephi for an open house.

Uncle Bruce was 9 years younger than my mom.
Child #4 of 5.
He lived with us our last 2 years in St. George
while he attended Dixie Jr. College.

He finished his undergraduate at Weber State.
Then, physical therapy school in
Galveston, Texas.
He practiced for a few years in Racine, Wisconsin.
Then, hating Wisconsin winters,
went to Ocala, Florida.

When I just got out of 7th grade, I spent a month
with them.  Five days in Denver with Nadene's sister,
and 3 1/2 weeks in Racine, Milwaukee, and Chicago.
My cousins are:
Kellie (1st girl cousin), born 1967.
Hospital administrator in Jacksonville, Florida.
Kristina, born 1969.
High School Special Ed teacher in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Jason, born 1971.
Professor at Duke University, Durham, North Carolina.

I like this invitation, celebrating 600 months!
They spent their anniversary in Alaska.

HAVE A "HALL-Y" JOLLY SUMMER

I LOVE SUMMERS!
WHEN I FIRST BEGAN TEACHING, WHEN SCHOOL WAS OVER,
IT WAS SUMMER!
I WOULD TAKE A COUPLE OF CLASSES OR WORKSHOPS
EVERY SUMMER, WORKING TOWARDS A SALARY LANE CHANGE.
I'D USHER AT THE "PAGEANT OF THE ARTS."
LOTS OF TIME WITH THE NIECES AND NEPHEWS.
I SPENT 3 JUNES HELPING CONRAD WITH HIS ORCHESTRAS.
TWO SUMMERS WERE SPENT DOING
MERRILL OSMOND'S PIONEER PAGEANT.
THOSE SAME 2 SUMMERS...WALT DISNEY WORLD AFTER THE PAGEANT.
ELEVEN YEARS OF BEING IN THE STAKE YOUNG WOMENS
MEANT 11 SUMMERS OF CAMP AND SOFTBALL.
.
ABOUT MY FIRST 10 YEARS OF TEACHING, ANY PREP WORK
WE DID TO GET READY FOR SCHOOL, WAS DONE ON OUR OWN TIME.
THEN, WE STARTED "CAREER LADDER."
WE HAD 6 DAYS TO WORK WHENEVER, AND 2 PRINCIPAL DIRECTED DAYS!
A NICE BONUS BEFORE CHRISTMAS!
HALLELUJAH!!!
THEN, SLOWLY, THE DAYS CHANGED.
SAME AMOUNT, BUT MORE PRINCIPAL AND DISTRICT DAYS.
THEN, IT WAS JUST COLLABORATION DAYS.
NOW, I UNDERSTAND THERE'S NOTHING, UNLESS YOU
GET THE COLLABORATION GRANT.  (ALL TITLE I SCHOOLS GET IT.)
NO COLLABORATION DAYS CAN BE USED FOR
"BACK TO SCHOOL" ROOM PREP, ORGANIZING,
GOING THROUGH FILES, COPYING, ETC.

UNTIL AROUND 2000, OUR TEACHING CERTIFICATES WERE
RENEWED AUTOMATICALLY...AS LONG AS YOU WERE CURRENTLY
A FULL TIME TEACHER.
AFTER THAT, YOU HAD TO HAVE 100 "RELICENSURE" POINTS.
I WOULD GET 30 POINTS A YEAR...JUST FOR BEING THE
AEA REP FOR MY SCHOOL.
THEN, THE STATE STARTED CHARGING TO RENEW YOU LICENSE,
AND TO BE FINGERPRINTED.
MY LAST RENEWAL IN 2010 COST OVER $200!
MY LICENSE IS UP FOR RENEWAL THIS YEAR.
I HAVE ENOUGH POINTS TO RENEW...AND I WOULD,
IF IT WAS FREE!

THEN, THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN.
AKA..."NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND & COMMON CORE."
WE HAD TO DO A LOT EVERY SUMMER!!!
DISTRICT MEETINGS...ALL DAY...THE FIRST WEEK OF JUNE!
MORE WORKSHOPS.
AND, COLLABORATION DAYS!
YOU HAD TO APPLY FOR THESE DAYS.
80% OF YOUR TEAM HAD TO AGREE TO DO IT.
WELL...WITH 4 TEACHERS, THEN 3...80% DIDN'T WORK.
IF I CHOSE NOT TO DO IT, MY TEAMMATES WOULD BE MAD,
CUZ THEY COULDN'T EARN THE MONEY!!!
(THAT'S CALLED "TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM!)
SO, WE APPLIED, AND GOT THE GRANTS.
WE HAD TO WORK 5 DAYS.  ONE TEAM MEMBER WANTED
TO WORK 10 1/2 DAYS!!!  NO THANK YOU!!!
GET IN, AND GET IT DONE!!!
I DID, HOWEVER, HAVE TO COMPROMISE AND
DO SOME DAYS IN AUGUST, RATHER THAN JUNE!
(I COULD NEVER HAVE COMPLETED MY YW CALLING WHILE DOING THIS.
I WOULD HAVE HAD TO MISS SOME SOFTBALL AND SOME CAMP.)

IF I HAD NOT RETIRED, MY SUMMER IN 2013 WOULD HAVE LOOKED LIKE THIS:
SCIENCE WORKSHOP
3 DISTRICT COMMON CORE MATH DAYS
CLEAR CREEK RECERTIFICATION
5 COLLABORATION DAYS
(OUT VOTED FOR 5 WHOLE DAYS)
INSTEAD, I WAS CONFINED TO THE CONDO WITH
MY FOOT...BUT, SOOOOO WORTH IT!!!

THE SUMMER OF 2012, WE HAD TO DO ALL OF OUR
COLLABORATION IN THE COMPUTER LAB.
WHY???
THEY WERE DIGGING UP OUR HALL FOR
EARTHQUAKE UPGRADES!!!

THIS PICTURE APPEARED ON MY "TIMEHOP" APP.
I HAD TOTALLY FORGOTTEN.
QUITE THE MEMORY!!!
SPOOKY!

BASEBALL . . . COACH PITCH . . . T-BALL

Cole, Haley, & Lily
are playing
Baseball, Coach Pitch, and T-Ball.
Laurel & I went down June 9  to watch
Haley play Coach Pitch in Genola, then over
to Goshen to watch Lily play T-Ball.
Both girls scored.
They are so adorable to watch!

The next day, Grandma Dixie, Laurel, Courtney, & I
went to Genola to watch Cole play Baseball.
He, like his sisters, scored.

Tried out my app.  Pretty cool.
McKay & Lori help coach Lily's T-Ball team.

Cole was up to bat, and on 3rd base in his pictures.

FORMER STUDENT PASSES AWAY

Nicholas Larry Gentry
October 31, 1983  ~  June 5, 2015

Our beautiful son, brother, and friend Nick Gentry passed away from this life to the next part of his journey at the age of 31. He is survived by his beautiful son, Levi William Gentry, mother Ann De Marco, step father, Ken De Marco, brother Judd (Jenifer) Hunter and four nephews, sister Andrea (Brian) Stewart with two nieces and one nephew, grandma Carol Beck and grandpa Jon Beck of Spanish Fork.

He can now watch over his son Levi, and the rest of his family he loved so much.

Nick grew up in Alpine, Utah. He loved jeeping and riding his dirt bikes in Hoggs and Moab with all his friends, jumping and always being a dare devil. He loved camping in the mountains above Alpine, and going to his ranch above Beaver, Utah.

Nick was a kind, compassionate, very funny, brilliant, unique individual who did most things his way. Nick worked very hard and he loved to work. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 12, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Alpine North LDS Stake Chapel, 1125 East Alpine Boulevard, Alpine, Utah. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and also at an additional viewing on Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 am prior to services at the church. Interment will take place in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

THIS IS THE PLACE

The This Is the Place Monument was built in 1947,
the 100th anniversary of the Pioneers arriving in Salt Lake Valley.
This is the spot where Brigham Young announced upon
entering the valley that this was the right place...drive on.

I was there for Analee's wedding.

FEEDING THE MISSIONARIES

On Tuesday, June 2, our Stake Relief Society were asked
to feed all of the missionaries for the
Provo Utah Mission Leadership Council.
The mission extends from Point of the Mountain to Santaquin,
and Eagle Mountain east to Colorado.
(Heber, Roosevelt, Vernal, etc.)
It was in the church by the Provo Temple.
There would be about 48 to feed, including the
mission president and his wife.

We decided to serve:
Potato Bar
Salad
Rolls
Cake

Conference Break room during lunch

The best part was when the missionaries sang
Called To Serve to us!
