ALPINE ELEMENTARY WINS A NATIONAL AWARD!

Alpine Elementary won a NATIONAL award for our "Safe Routes to School!"  This means that we safely walk/bike to school, use crosswalks, use proper safety gear, participate in our monthly "Walk to School Wednesday", and log the miles that we walk and run. Last year, the "Keep on Mooooving" program helped us buy a cow for our sister Candlelight School in Africa.  This year, we are running for bananas for our sister school.
This is a HUGE honor, and only one school a year in the nation receives this award!
At the assembly, there were representatives from UDOT, Alpine School District, the mayor of Alpine, a representative of the governor, committee members, and the Alpine Eagle and Maggie Moo.

Two African drummers lead the dignitaries in.
The Eagle helps to lead the dignitaries in.
Look who's following Miss Larsen!  It's Mr. Stephenson!!!  He was our principal at Alpine Elementary for the last 8 years!  He helped to start the safe routes program!  The kids were REALLY excited when they saw him!
The Eagle and Maggie Moo lead us in the school song.
Mayor Hunt Willoughby had a funny story to tell.  When he was in an assembly in the 5th grade, we was sitting on the floor.  A spider was by him, and he grabbed it.  The teacher could tell he was playing with something...and asked for him to give it to her.  After asking 3 times, he finally gave it to her.  Of course, she screamed!

 Miss Larsen receives the award.

After the award ceremony...we were treated to the "SNAP" assembly.  They taught us how to be safe when going to school!  It was very fun!

Special thanks to Cherie' Kelly.  She is the Safety Committee Chair for Alpine Elementary.  She has worked extremely hard for the Safe Routes program!
