2019 READS

2019
was a great year for reading!

I'm one of those people
who has to physically
hold the book, and turn the pages!
(One of my biggest pet peeves were people
who licked their fingers to turn the pages,
or pass out papers.)

Looking at my list, I  pretty
much read what I enjoy...and
that looks like historical fiction
and biographies.

Here are my 2019 reads:
(In alphabetical order)
 My Favorite Jazz Player

 I read this book to my class . . . and, I've
been to Jamestown, Virginia twice.

Gail Miller is the owner of the Utah Jazz
(and a billionaire).
She became owner when her husband passed away.
Great book and a fast read.

One of my favorite NBA players. Married into the
Kardashian-Jenner clan (and divorced out of them).
Was a contestant on Dancing With the Stars fall of 2019.

I have followed her blog for years!

This book is about a counselor in my
bishopric when I was in elementary school.
I taught 2 of his granddaughters in 5th grade.

 Another blog I had followed.

We studied the New Testament in Sunday School
in 2019.  In teaching US History to my 5th graders,
there was at least 1 or 2 who would pick up
that King James (Jamestown was named after, etc)
was the same King James on the Bible.

The current prophet of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
(LDS, Mormon).
He has 9 daughters and 1 son, sings on perfect pitch,
and was a world renowned heart surgeon.
He also performed open heart surgery on my dad in 1979.

These 2 books were soooo interesting!
I was reading them at the same time.
I liked he First Ladies book the best of these two!

 Great read about
President George W. Bush's twins.
How would you like to grow up with
your grandpa as president, and then your dad?

WOW!  A really true love story set
in a concentration camp.

I read this because everyone else
was reading it.

Another person that I was following on her blog.

I was really late reading this book.
Rented the movie on my tv.

Currently Reading:
A great read!  These 2 men are about
the same age, with the same background.
At one point, they lived close to each
other in Illinois, but their paths never crossed.

Short stories by people involved in the
life of Larry H. Miller, Utah Jazz President
until he passed away.

Our course of study in Sunday School
for 2020.

A continuation of the president of the church
that I'm a member of.
Expands on his wife's passing, meeting and
marrying his new wife, becoming the prophet
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

I went with my BFF to his 95th birthday celebration!
I'm so in awe that he walks without any assistance and
stood at a microphone with nothing to lean on
(I can't do that), and how well he plays the piano!

History of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints people  1815-1846
(Before the Church was established through
coming (the Pioneers) to the Salt Lake Valley.

This is the book I would take on my
history trips back East to give to the instructor
as a gift.
The authors are brothers.
The first author is currently a
representative in Congress!
(The book was written before he became a Congressman)

.
This book was written by a man who worked
at the White House and then became the Chief Usher.
He was there for the last
part of FDR's administration and retired a
couple of months into Richard Nixon's administration.
I was quite surprised that the couple that were
the biggest partiers were the Johnson's!
(He was president through most of my elementary school years)

I've read Laura Bush's biography.
I have two more first ladies books waiting to read:
Barbara Bush and Michelle Obama.

Reading more in 2019 was a big goal of mine!
I kept books in the bathrooms, next to my recliner,
and in my car.  It was great to read while waiting
for groceries to be delivered to my car, and also
waiting for the doors to open at Jazz games.
