VALENTINE'S DAY

I have been loving the retirement!
I never thought I could be so happy not being a teacher!!!
I'm busier than ever, but without having to teach school,
make lesson plans, grade papers, and enter scores in the computer,
I seem to have more time to do what I want.
My life had always been busy, and I would feel that
at least when I went to school, I would be at the same place for a few hours.

Anyway, there are only a few times I've missed teaching.
The excitement of the first day.
Clear Creek.
Halloween.
Christmastime.
Valentine's Day.

I loved our Valentine's celebration so much!
Making and decorating the folders, doing "Broken Hearts" in math, where we matched each side of a heart to make equivalent fractions.
And of course, the Valentine Party!
Valentine Bingo, the "Candy Bar Game", popping in on the 6th grade dance, passing out Valentines.
Some years, I would get quite the haul . . . like last year:

This year, I found cute little stuffed animals at
Dollar Tree.
$.50 each!
Yup, I could afford 13 of them.
I went over the day before to give them to the kids.

I also asked on Facebook to have parents send me pictures
from the 6th grade dance.
Not too successful.
I got a couple, but, Hannah Smith's mom posted a TON!
I found a lot of the kids in them.

I really miss Hazel!
She was so great to talk to...an old soul.

That night, I went to Heidi Shurtz's wedding in Orem.
Her mom, Colleen, is Karen's sister.
Karen was my favorite roommate in college...Dixie.
I was the "yellow" bridesmaid in the famous rainbow wedding!

A LITTLE SLICE OF HUMBLE PIE

The most coveted ticket for the season is this . . .

The Heat only come to Salt Lake City one time each year,
because they are in the Eastern Conference.
It's like when Michael Jordan would make his yearly trip
(except for The Finals).

It is protocol that the visiting team comes out to warm up first,
followed by the home team.
The Heat never came out.

Finally, the Jazz came out.
Then the Heat...all but Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, and LeBron James.
Bosh came out about 3 minutes later, then D-Wade about 3 after that.
It took another 5 minutes for LeBron to come out!

Notice the fans beginning to gather, with cameras in hand,
to get a glimpse.
All players shoot baskets, do lay ups, etc. during warmups.
Not LeBron!
He put on a "Dunk Show!"
"Hey, Utah...look at me!!!"
"You're here to see me!  After all, most of you are wearing MY jersey!!!"
"I am a 4 time MVP!"
"I have 2 Back to Back Titles!"
"I held the entire world hostage with my ESPN program,
'THE DECISION'
which would tell you where I would play!  Yes, they said you
would know my decision in the first 10 minutes of the special!
NOPE!
You wouldn't see the other 1 hour 50 minutes about me if I revealed
in the first 10 minutes!"

During introductions, players go on court when they were introduced.
Not the Heat!
They were in a circle, arms locked around shoulders,
bouncing around the entire time!

When they played the Jazz intro music,
the Heat really started dancing!

LeBron received the tip off.
He bounce passed the basketball between his legs,
then skipped merrily down the court.

Michael Jordan would never have acted this way!
Even Kobe wouldn't have done it!
Mr. James...you showed total disrespect for the Jazz!

Hopefully, losing to the Jazz, 94-89,
will have given you a little slice of humble pie,
maybe.

Daniel Chase Edward Kearl
Daniel Chase Edward Kearl, 24, passed away on February 3, 2014 in Lehi, Utah. He was born on October 27, 1989 to Keith Blaine Kearl and Kim Devey Fernstrom.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alpine Mountain Ville 2nd Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held from Monday from 12:00 Noon - 1:45 PM prior to the service. Interment, Alpine City Cemetery.

I knew Chase Kearl's mom, Kim Devey, since junior high.
Kim's sister is Katherine Chatfield.  I taught all 6 of Katherine's
girls.  Four of the six become my aides when they were in high
school.
I basically knew Chase from the gymnastics trips I went on with
Katherine.  Rob and Katherine Chatfield are currently serving as mission president and wife in Africa.
Chase was always so kind and polite.  He was at Westfield during 5th grade.  But, I taught his brother, Dawson.
