GLITTER ON!

I love glitter!
It is so pretty and sparkly!

If I was still teaching, today would have been
the one and only day of the school year that
I would have gotten out the glitter!

My mom taught her 1st graders how to make
3-D Poinsettias.
If a 1st grader can do it, it should be a cinch
for a 5th grader!

It took me about 10 years to get it down perfectly!
Even though it was November, and before Thanksgiving,
we made them the day before Thanksgiving break.

Here's my reasoning.
1.  There would be several students absent,
because they were getting a head start on
Thanksgiving break, as we only went to school
on Monday and Tuesday of that week.

2.  Kids were excited to get out for the break.

3.  Because of the many absences, each student
was able to make 2 poinsettias.

4.  Five days of Thanksgiving Break gave
the glue time to dry.

It was sooo fun!
There was always the kid that stuck their
hand in the glitter.  Just cuz it's there.

Almost every student that sat on the benches at the
"glitter table" had glitter on their rear end when
they finished.

Girls are dainty with the glue and glitter.

Boys put their glue and glitter EVERYWHERE
on the poinsettia!
(Therefore, 5 days were needed for it to dry!)

When the vacationing kids returned, they
wanted to make the poinsettias.
Unfortunately for them, I only got the
glitter out one day a year.
(Fewer kids to make a mess)
You snooze, you lose!

And then, I always liked that one day during
Christmas Break when I spent about 10 hours at the school.
I prepped for the Science Fair, and also cleaned.
The kids were great at cleaning before the break.
But, there were the tiny pieces of yarn from pom pom pillows.
The hardened icing from the Christmas Village.
And, of course, the glitter!
(It somehow was the hardest to clean up!)

But, oh . . . look at the final results:
The poinsettias were made into two giant wreaths.
Also, a tree in the hall.
The border around was Christmas lights.
We had a fireplace a former student
(RIP, Landon.  And, thanks for your service for
our country!) made.  Our laced stockings
hung around it!
We made a Christmas Village for the counter.
This included frosting lunchroom milk cartons
and decorating them.
The kids set up neighborhoods, and wound
Christmas lights through each village.

You can see at the top of picture by the left light,
some silver tinsel.  All you had to do was poke
the tinsel up into the ceiling squares, and it held.
Tinsel was draped from the corners and sides
of the the room...thanks (in my later years)
to my custodians.

CEDAR CITY TEMPLE

I thought it would be fun to go to the
Cedar City Temple
Open House for my birthday.
Cedar City is about 45 minutes north
of St. George . . . the town I was born in,
and lived until I was 6.  Also, went to
Jr. College there.

I sent a message to former roommate, Sara,
if she'd like to come up for it.
She wanted to get all of our roommates
together (Pam couldn't make it.)

The problem?
The dates weren't very long.
We had to work around my BYU football
and Utah Jazz games, mom's surgery,
my responsibilities as Utah ADK President,
and birthdays.
I was able to come up with the
dates, November 15-17.
(The 15th was Ally & Brooky's bday, and
the 17th was Mark's.  But, we had celebrated
on the Sunday before.)

Mom and I drove down.
We first met at the
Brick House for lunch.

Clockwise, left to right:  Maria (Sara's neighbor, and a nonmember),
Sara Deaver, Kathleen Salazar, Karen Esplin, me, and mom

I think the temple looks a little bit like
a smaller version of the St. George Temple

Outside of the temple.
It was sooooo windy!

Mom and I decided to go to St. George
for 2 nights and 3 days.
This is LoyAnn McArthur McClendon.
My mom taught her in the 1st & 2nd grades in
the early 60's!
This is her first year of retirement as a teacher.
She told us about her experience in
St. Thomas during the hurricane!

 St. George Temple

Oh, the flowers!!!
I wish I had driven by at night for pictures!

We went to the St. George Temple and did a session.
We hadn't been there since August 2016, when
Kathleen received her endowments.

We ate lunch at the temple.
I saw Jewel Walters!
We were in junior high - high school together.
She also was a para educator at Alpine Elementary.
Her husband, Clive, grew up in my ward.
Their kids went to Alpine Elementary, and
Jessica was my aide one year.
They moved to St. George.

We also went shopping while we were there.
We got mom a new purse, garments,
and some clothes at Dress Barn.
I got mom's Christmas while there...gift card for Dress Barn.

After shopping at Dress Barn, we hit the road.
The weather was fine, until we hit Beaver.
From Beaver to Fillmore, it was a downpour, then
snow.  Lots of it.  We were surrounded
by people that didn't know how to drive in it!
Cars were backwards, off the road, etc.
Some drivers think the speed limit signs
are for all the time!!!
The traffic going southbound was at a standstill.

Other than stretch of traffic,
fabulous road trip!!!

ELLY

Elly Pettro was one of my favorites!
(Aren't they all?)
Her name is Ellyssa.
Her best friend in 5th grade
was Eliana Barton.
Elly & Eli!

A funny story about Elly.
The week before Thanksgiving, Elly
told me that she would not be to school
the 2 days before Thanksgiving break.
I asked her where she was going.
She said, "Paris."
I said, "Paris, Idaho?"
She said, "Is that where the Eiffel Tower is?"

Here's my magnet she brought me back:

5th grader

Elly can really twist!

I don't know Elly's story, but, she did post
on Instagram last February that she was called to serve
in the North Carolina Charlotte Mission, May 31.

Clever invitation for a November wedding.

Married in the Newport Beach Temple.

I was planning on going to Elly's reception.
Mom and I were driving back from St. George.
We got into some really bad weather between
Beaver and Fillmore.
I was going to stop in Provo for the reception.
It was too cold for her to sit in car.
After taking her home, I didn't want to drive
back to Provo.

CELEBRATING ME, LORI, HEIDI, ALLY, BROOKY, AND MARK

We have been having a hard time
getting together to celebrate Lori, Heidi, and my birthdays.
There were 2 couples who had gone on trips,

I also ask for an updated photo of each kid for my wall.

There's room for 2 on the right, 3 on left, and
