Shirley was born the same year as my dad...1928.
Her first movie was when she was only 3 years old!
She was the top box office star for an entire Hollywood studio!
This was in the 1930s, when our country was in the middle of the
Great Depression.
She was sooooo popular, that many people named their children after her!
My dad's younger brother was born in 1936.
His name was Shirley Robert. Really??? A boy named Shirley? Yup.
He was one of the poor boys who had to deal with this phenomenon!
Shirley Robert Mitchell actually legally changed his name to Shirl Robert Mitchell!
In adult life, Shirley Temple worked for the Republican party,
the U.N., and was an ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
