LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER

LAISSEZ LES BONS TEMPS ROULER
"LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL"

NOLA . . . THE BIG EASY

On July 10-16, 2017, I attended the
Alpha Delta Kappa
International Convention in
New Orleans, Louisiana.
This was part of my duties as the state president.

This was my first time to New Orleans.
Also, it was my first time seeing and being
on the Mississippi River.
(I have seen the river several times from the air)

I tried a lot of Louisiana cuisine:
Grits
Jambalaya
Oysters (cooked...no raw)
Gumbo
Red Beans and Rice
Pralines
Beignets
Po' Boys

I did not try:
Alligator
Crawfish Etouffee
Turtle Soup

I have TONS and TONS of photos from the trip.
By using my phone for pictures, it tells you on
each picture exactly where you are!

But, it's most likely the one and only time going there.
So, enjoy my memories!
(After, you will know you've been there!)

My view from my hotel room.
"Old Man River"
Mississippi River.
I stayed at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside Hotel.

The moon looked pretty cool!

Workshops
This one was a "Minute to Win It"
I was in a group with teachers from Massachusetts,
North Carolina, and Georgia.

This game was working the cookie from forehead to math.
(We played this in my class)

Of course, I made it!

Adding a pencil each time to see if you could catch them
with one hand.

Belly Up to the Bar
One night, we sat at the bar to eat.
We were able to watch them prepare oysters.
And, they gave us samples!

National officers being introduced.

My first beignet

Not sure why I never had one of these in
New Orleans Square at Disneyland!

The next international convention will be in
Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2019.
Our Northwest/Southwest Conference will be in
Anchorage, Alaska in 2018.

Loved these little voting machines!
Wish we had these when we had the 5th grade
legislative session!

Utah Delegation

With Mollie Acosta
our new Southwest International Vice President.
Each state gave a charm, representing their state.
My charm was a ski boot.

Before the banquet, they took pictures of the
International Board by the pool.
Great view from my 11th story room!

Last night banquet.
You were assigned a table to sit with
nobody that you knew.  If you were a couple, you
were assigned together.
I sat by ladies from North Carolina, Ohio, Hawaii,
Colorado, and Minnesota.

We got to have the commemorative coin in the purple bag.
We each got to pick a mask and beads.
That purple mask resides on a shelf in my
huge closet!

Dinner

Dessert . . . chocolate pyramid

Current president, Ruth Ann Griggs, farewell.

The new president's theme for her biennium.

My lanyard with past Utah pins, and some other states.

The new national executive board.
My flight was late Saturday afternoon.
Georgia Loutensock, and Sue & Al Potts were on my flight.
Since Georgia hadn't seen any of the city, I was more than
happy to go on the city tour again!
Trying to get pictures of what I didn't get on Tuesday.

The lettering on the work JAZZ is the same lettering
that the Utah Jazz had on their uniforms in the late '90s
and early 2000s!

New Orleans

The Super Dome
This was one of the first indoor stadiums in the
United States.  (I think the Houston Astro Dome was the first)
The New Orleans Saints play here.  Several Super Bowls
and college national championships have been played here, too.
During Hurricane Katrina, the doors were opened to help victims.
