CALLED TO SERVE . . .

I was released in March as an
ORDINANCE WORKER
  in the
MT. TIMPANOGOS LDS TEMPLE
I was called to serve for 2 years,
but 2 years stretched to 16 years.
My foot dr. told me to be released (he's a stake president
in Pleasant Grove) and strongly suggested I don't
serve there again.
(All the standing at the temple and school
contributed to the breakdown of my foot.)
He said after 16 years, I may have received
one or two blessings!

I have been serving as the
RELIEF SOCIETY PIANIST
for the last 4 years.
I haven't played in the last 4 months because of my foot.
I played once, 2 weeks ago.
I used my left foot on the pedal.
Then, I was told I would only play every other week,
because they needed to give more sisters a
chance to serve.
Playing four songs a month as my church calling???
SWEEEET!
I guess I was getting a little too comfortable,
and may have said it out loud.  And then

BAM

ANOTHER GREAT RETIREMENT CELEBRATION

I had a great retirement celebration tonight!
The Vance family invited my mom and I to a barbecue at their home in Alpine.
My favorite teammate of all time was Calvan Vance.
He was my teammate from Day #1 in 1980...until his
retirement in 1997.
He was such a great mentor and friend!
Three weeks before he retired, he was diagnosed with melanoma cancer.
He passed away on Easter morning, 2000.
I really miss him!
I have always been connected to his family.
His oldest son, Doug, was a custodian at my school for several years.
Doug's wife, Jeanie, is an aide at Alpine Elementary.
Doug & Jeanie were on my Caribbean Cruise.
Blaire now teaches 3rd grade in Vernal.  He is married to Laurette,
who grew up in my ward.
Jody is his oldest daughter.  She's always been there.
The youngest, Debbie, was a student in the fourth class I taught!

Jody's son, Jason, is a sweeper at Alpine Elementary.
Ashley is Doug and Jeanie's oldest.
She has also worked at Alpine Elementary.
Carson was a student in my class!  In high school, he was a sweeper at
Alpine Elementary.  He just returned from serving
a mission in California.
Garett will be a senior at Lone Peak.
He was my student and also a sweeper.

Margaret is Calvan's wife.
She and my mom share the same birthday.
I got to know her through school activities,as Calvan's wife,
and as the mother of my student, Debbie.
No one makes divinity like Margret!
I used to visit Calvan every year for his birthday, which
was a summer birthday
She loves BYU football!

It was so fun to spend time with them!

Paul David Thompson

May 23, 1938  ~  July 4, 2013

Beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Paul David Thompson, passed away on July 4, 2013, at his home in Alpine, Utah.
Paul was born May 23, 1938, in San Bernardino, California. He was the second child and only son of Roy and Lois Thompson.
He graduated from Colton High School in California and attended BYU before serving a two and one half year mission in Uruguay. After returning, he graduated from BYU in Spanish, English, Education and Art. He married Barbara Travis in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 20, 1962. His first teaching job was in Minersville, teaching a combination third/fourth grades.
He served two years in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. After his release from the Army, he taught high school at Weber High in Ogden. He then taught release-time Seminary in Pocatello, Idaho for three years before returning to BYU to work on a master’s degree in Art. He then became a graphic designer for the Seminary and Institute dept. of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1972, the family moved to Alpine where he taught fourth and then fifth grades at Alpine Elementary for many years and worked in the curriculum dept. of Alpine School District before his retirement. While teaching, he created the Utah Studies Weekly newspaper for children, which has subsequently spread to all fifty states with the help of his family.
Paul had many interests and talents and used them to bless the lives of his family and others. He will be remembered for his talents and cheerful disposition. He served in many capacities in the Church, including Bishop. He loved his family, students, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two sisters: Beverly Johnson, Linda (Alan) Petersen; five children: Tyler (Janece) Thompson, Miriam (Dave) Latour, Celeste (Ed) Rickers, Laurel Thompson, Travis (Yu-Ting) Thompson; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on July 22, 2013 at the Mountainville LDS Chapel located at 165 North 100 East, Alpine, Utah at 11:00 am. Family and friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 21 at the church and from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to services. Interment will be held in the Alpine City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.warenski.com

THE MOST AMAZING INVENTION!

This is an AMAZING invention!
There are 2 levers.
You push one to go forward, and one to go backward.
When you go in reverse, it beeps, so people know you are coming.

I passed the school supply aisles at WalMart.
I didn't even have a tear in my eye!
I think I'll make it!!!
