"WHAT'S A WORLD'S FAIR?" YOU ASK.
WELL, IT'S AN EXHIBITION HELD SOMEWHERE IN
THE WORLD. THERE'S A THEME, AND
COUNTRIES, BUSINESSES, RELIGIONS, ETC.
CAN HAVE AN EXHIBITION INSIDE OF A PAVILION.
YOU DON'T HEAR ABOUT THEM LIKE YOU DID
WHEN I WAS GROWING UP.
MANY FAIRS HAVE A PERMANENT STRUCTURE
THAT IS LEFT BEHIND TO REMEMBER THE FAIR.
ST. LOUIS ARCH
LONDON FARIS WHEEL
GLOBE IN NEW YORK WHERE US OPEN TENNIS
TOURNAMENT IS LOCATED
SEATTLE SPACE NEEDLE
NOW, THEY ARE CALLED "EXPOS."
THERE WILL BE ONE THIS YEAR IN KHAZISTAN.
WHO KNEW?
WHO KNEW?
I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF PLAYING IN A CONCERT
AT THE 1974 WORLD'S FAIR IN SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
(HOME OF JOHN STOCKTON...WE STAYED IN THE
DORMS AT GONZAGA UNIVERSITY, JOHN'S ALMA MATER!)
I WAS WITH THE AMERICAN FORK HIGH SCHOOL BAND.
IT WAS THE SUMMER BETWEEN MY SOPHOMORE
AND JUNIOR YEAR.
I ONLY REMEMBER 2 OF THE PAVILIONS:
USA
CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS.
I REMEMBER THEM BECAUSE THE USA HAD
THE COOLEST EXHIBIT OF OLD FASHIONED BATHTUBS.
THE MORMON PAVILION WAS SHAPED LIKE
THE GOLD PLATES.
(JOSEPH SMITH RECEIVED THESE, AND TRANSLATED
THE CARVINGS ON THEM INTO THE
BOOK OF MORMON.)
OK. DONE WITH MY MEMORIES.
THE AFTERNOON AFTER THE CHRISTMAS SING AT GOSHEN,
WAS THE 6TH GRADE WORLD'S FAIR AT
SAGE HILLS ELEMENTARY.
JAYCIE WAS ASSIGNED THE COUNTRY OF COLOMBIA.
THE PROJECT WAS LONG, AND HARD.
JAYCIE ENDED UP WITH 22 TYPED PAGES!
MORE THAN ANYTHING I HAD IN COLLEGE
OR GRADUATE CLASSES!!!
ANYWAY, I HELPED QUITE A BIT,
BUT I AM MOST PROUD OF SUGGESTING
SHE OUTLINE HER MAPS WITH A SHARPIE!
BIG DIFFERENCE!!!
AND NOW, I KNOW MORE ABOUT COLOMBIA
THAN I EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE!
(INCLUDING THE SPELLING IS COLOMBIA NOT COLUMBIA!)
SOOOO PROUD OF JAYCIE AND
HER HARD WORK AND DEDICATION!!!
