DANA WAS ALSO ONE OF THE YOUNG WOMEN

LUNCH WITH A JAZZ COACH

Sooooo glad I'm retired!!!
I get to do things I haven't been able to do...
like have lunch with a Jazz coach!

The lunch was in the VIP room at the
Energy Solutions Arena.

We had pasta salad, green salad, chips, and
"Build your own Sandwich."
They also had cookies, brownies,
and all you could drink Diet Coke
at their Coke machine!

We heard the assistant scout for the Jazz as our speaker.

They had posters of all the players on the wall by the
VIP room.

One of the best parts, after 1 1/2 hours...pretty much everyone
made a bee-line to the bathrooms.
The men's and women's were next to each other.
The men's line was looooong!
I went in the women's, and when I came out,
the men's line hadn't moved!!!

You don't see that very often!!!

10 GOSPEL TRUTHS FROM DISNEY

I saw this on the Utah Valley 360 page. . . LOVE!

10 gospel truths from Disney

The theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is founded on the premise that Jesus Christ restored his Church through the prophet Joseph Smith after appearing to him in vision. Gordon B. Hinckley once related the story of a man who heard this story from a bishop and described the account as “more Disney than Disney.”
“Maybe so—but it’s all true,” the bishop in the story replied.
Faithful members of the Church believe the Joseph Smith story and, incidentally, tend to be fond of Disney movies. It could be because of these gospel truths that permeate Disney and Pixar films.

1. Reach for your dreams

livedream
“Set goals that are well balanced—not too many nor too few, and not too high nor too low. Write down your attainable goals and work on them according to their importance. Pray for divine guidance in your goal setting.” —Elder M. Russell Ballard, “Keeping Life’s Demands in Balance”

2. We all have great potential

potential
“With all my capacity I encourage you to discover who you really are. I invite you to look beyond the daily routine of life. I urge you to discern through the Spirit your divinely given capacities. I exhort you to prayerfully make worthy choices that will lead you to realize your full potential.” —Elder Richard G. Scott, “Realize Your Full Potential”

3. Comparison is never a good idea

comparing
“This topic of judging others could actually be taught in a two-word sermon. When it comes to hating, gossiping, ignoring, ridiculing, holding grudges, or wanting to cause harm, please apply the following: Stop it!” —President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “The Merciful Obtain Mercy”

4. Family is most important

sisters
“One of the great messages of the gospel is the doctrine of the eternal nature of the family unit. We declare to the world the value and importance of family life, but much of the confusion and difficulty we find existing in the world today is being traced to the deterioration of the family. Home experiences where children are taught and trained by loving parents are diminishing.” —Elder L. Tom Perry, “Therefore I Was Taught”

5. True love lasts forever

love
“Every man who truly loves a woman, and every woman who truly loves a man, hopes and dreams that their companionship will last forever.” —President Gordon B. Hinckley, “The Marriage That Endures”

6. Bringing others down doesn’t elevate your standing

benice
“Coveting, pouting, or tearing others down does not elevate your standing, nor does demeaning someone else improve your self-image. So be kind, and be grateful that God is kind. It is a happy way to live.” —Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, “The Laborers in the Vineyard”

7. Keep Moving Forward

keepmovingforward
“I plead with you not to dwell on days now gone, nor to yearn vainly for yesterdays, however good those yesterdays may have been. The past is to be learned from but not lived in. We look back to claim the embers from glowing experiences but not the ashes. And when we have learned what we need to learn and have brought with us the best that we have experienced, then we look ahead, we remember that faith is always pointed toward the future.” —Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, ”Remember Lot’s Wife”

8. Anyone can change

change
“There is hope. Hope is linked to repentance. You can change. You can ‘come unto Christ, and be perfected in him.

9. Patience is a virtue

miracles
“Patience, that heavenly virtue, had brought to humble Saints its heaven-sent reward.” —President Thomas S. Monson, “Patience—A Heavenly Virtue”

10. We all get our happily ever after

infinitybeyond
“Most glorious of all, He offers you a gift beyond price and comprehension. Heavenly Father offers to you the greatest gift of all—eternal life—and the opportunity and infinite blessing of your own ‘happily ever after.’” —President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, “Your Happily Ever After”

I'M SO GLAD WHEN DADDY COMES HOME

MIKE HAD BEEN OUT OF TOWN FOR WORK.
HERE'S OAKLEY'S REACTION WHEN SHE
HEARD THE GARAGE DOOR OPEN, AND DADDY WAS HOME!

SURVIVAL OF THE {WARD CONFERENCE} FITTEST

"SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST"

The origin of this term was the idea that species adapt and change by natural selection with the best suited mutations becoming dominant. It is associated the Charles Darwin's "Theory of Evolution."  Today, the term is associated with those that work the hardest...survive, and come out on top.
I have survived my first "Ward/Branch Conference Season!"  President Kane, our Stake President, asked that we attend every ward/branch conference.  Our Presidency was to teach about Relief Society in each ward.  Since the handbook specifically states that the secretary does not teach, I thought I was home free!  But then, Sister Blackhurst, Stake Relief Society President, had a way to get around it!  She would have me teach at the Stonehenge rehab center, and Bel Aire...an assisted living center.  She said they wouldn't know I was the secretary.
We were to go to every ward and branch in the stake and attend the entire block of meetings.  Some days, this was two blocks, a total of six hours of church!  That's longer than a day of General Conference!  By assignment from President Kane, we also had to meet with each presidency to discuss the strengths, concerns, goals, and how the stake RS presidency could help.
The stake president's talk was about the Sacrament, the Sunday School Presidency taught the sisters about the Priesthood, and the Relief Society Presidency taught about the Relief Society and how it is our privilege to belong.
By the end, I could have delivered any of the messages!  We would have the Sacrament after the stake president's talk.  The funny thing about this was the ward members didn't know this would happen.  In one of the Harbor wards, two brothers came in during opening song.  The were going to take the sacrament, then leave to watch the NFL playoffs.  The asked me how had the missed the sacrament?
It seems so long ago since January 12, when I went to Stonehenge.  The first person I saw when I walked in was Geraldine Bangerter.  She is the mother of Julie Beck, the 15th General Relief Society President!  Sister Bangerter was recovering from hip surgery.  A little scary to teach with her there!  I knew Julie because her kids went to Alpine Elementary!  We had a nice 30 minute chat after.  My lesson at the two Care Centers is also my "High Council Talk."
I made 10/12 of the conferences.  I missed my own on March 9 (traveling home from St. George) and today's (Bel Aire), since I would have had to leave early to speak in another ward, I just went to my speaking assignment.
The last time I was in my own ward was January 5!  I went to Allyson and Brooklyn's blessing on the February Fast Sunday, and Ethan Reese's blessing in March.  I get to go to my own ward next week!  Then it's General Conference, and the next week I'm going to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Broadcast as part of our ADK Conference.  Then, I should be able to go...until we start visiting the Relief Societies again.

This is my lesson/high council talk on the
"History of Relief Society."
The little Relief Society Magazines I have, I used with
part of the history.
 Speaker in the 11th Ward

 These magazines were delivered monthly.
It had lessons, poetry, sewing patterns, photos of
Relief Societies around the world!
I found these that belonged to my
Grandma Mitchell when I was packing up the house.

It is soooo funny that something addressed to
Mrs. Hilda Mitchell
American Fork
Utah
would get delivered!
Next up?
Women's Conference and Stake Leadership

And . . . on a fun note . . .
Lori's dad was made Stake President
of the YSA stake where he is currently
serving as bishop!
Good luck, Papa Davey!
(Gotta love McKay being incognito!)

1 YEAR

FOOT UPDATE...1 YEAR
It was March 20, 2013, when I walked into my foot doctor's office, and was taken out in a wheelchair! I had Charcot Foot...which was at least 10-12 broken bones in my foot. I spent my last 2 1/2 months of my teaching career in a wheelchair. I was basically laid up for 5 months, and in a boot for 8 months. I retired from teaching after 33 years, and released from serving in the Mount Timpanogos Temple after serving 16 years. I was facing possibly many surgeries, and I thought my life was over! I retired on May 30. Everything worked out (since I missed the retirement deadline) even having insurance after my 6 years of insurance ended...cuz I'm so young!
I was called at the end of July to be in the Stake Relief Society Presidency. My Stake President set me apart, and blessed my that I would be healed! I never had surgery!
Summer was LONG! But, at the end of August, I was given the green light to drive! The next month, my doctor said I could go to BYU football and Jazz games! And my life has been better ever since! That's why I like to post where I am...because I was cooped up soooo long! I love the retired life! For about 3 months, I had to make sure to wear my boot at big places...BYU Football, Jazz games, temple.
It's hard to start walking after I have sat a long time...but after about a dozen steps, it's all good. I wear shoes that have a lot of cushion to help with the support. I also wear a brace everyday. I use my fancy cane when getting up in the middle of the night, and I limp slightly. I can live with that!
Love my foot dr. Gary Ridge, and Jill Ridge Roylance, and Elyse Hawks!
Thanks to everyone who helped transport me everywhere in my non-driving days..Lori Willis Chadwick, Don Beckstrand, Annalea Warwood, Ashley Mitchell Kelly, Dixie Howard Mitchell, Condita Washburn, Adonna Iverson , Heidi Dokos Park, Renae Allen Reese, and anyone else I forgot! Also, all my school friends, and especially my 5th grade kiddos!
See you at the Retirement Open House on May 5 for me, Don Beckstrand, and Diane Walter!

 Meet my new shoes!

I wear this brace everyday over my sock, and before
I put my shoe on.
