ST. GEORGE

ON MARCH 6, I TOOK A ROAD TRIP TO
THE PLACE OF MY BIRTH . . .
ST. GEORGE!

THE PURPOSE WAS TO ATTEND KAREN'S SON, JONNY'S, WEDDING.
IT WAS A VERY NICE RIDE, AS THE WEATHER WAS GORGEOUS!
(AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO MAKE LESSON PLANS!)
I STAYED AT MY FAVORITE HOTEL, ABBEY INN.
AFTER CHECKING IN, I DROVE AROUND ENJOYING THE BEAUTY.

I LOVE THE RED ROCKS OF DIXIE!
WAS IT BECAUSE I WAS BORN THERE?
OR
MY MOM'S NAME, DIXIE, WAS ON THE "SUGAR LOAF?"
I JUST LOVE IT!
WHEN I GRADUATED FROM DIXIE, THEY HAD A BANQUET,
HOSTED BY THE ALUMNI.
AT EACH PLACE SETTING WAS A CUTE JAR OF RED SAND.
IT HAD THIS POEM ON THE FRONT:

I THOUGHT I'D FIND A NEW LIFE
AND LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND.
BUT THE ROCKS AND SANDS OF DIXIE
KEEP RUNNING THROUGH MY MIND.

ON FRIDAY, I WENT TO MY FAVORITE COLLEGE!
WHEN MY DAD TAUGHT THERE, IT WAS
DIXIE COLLEGE.
WHEN I ATTENDED (AND GRADUATED), IT WAS
DIXIE JR. COLLEGE.
IT LATER BECAME
DIXIE STATE COLLEGE.
THEN LAST FALL, IT BECAME
DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY.

I WENT TO THE BOOKSTORE TO GET
A COUPLE OF SHIRTS, AND TO SHOP.
I ALSO DROVE TO THE GOLF COURSE TO FIND
WHERE THE WEDDING FESTIVITIES WOULD TAKE PLACE.
I SPENT THE AFTERNOON
AT THE TEMPLE...INITIATORY AND 2 SESSIONS.

SATURDAY WAS SPENT AT THE WEDDING LUNCHEON
AT "THE LEDGES."
THEN THE TEMPLE FOR THE CEREMONY.
THEN BACK TO "THE LEDGES" FOR THE RECEPTION.

THE WEATHER WAS PERFECT!

 A FEW PHOTOS. . .

 SPRING IS MY FAVORITE SEASON!
I THINK IT'S THE "REBIRTH" AFTER LONG WINTERS.
WINTER DAYS ARE SHORT.  THERE'S ICE THAT I'M
ALWAYS AFRAID OF FALLING ON.
THE ONLY PERFECT DAYS ARE WHEN THE SUN IS SHINING,
THERE'S SNOW EVERYWHERE BUT ON THE SIDEWALKS AND ROADS.
IF THERE'S NO SNOW, EVERYTHING IS BROWN, NO LEAVES ON TREES,
AND SKIES ARE GRAY.
I DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!
I LOVE IT BEING LIGHTER IN THE EVENINGS!!!
ANYWAY. . . TO SEE BLOSSOMS OUT IN THE BEGINNING OF MARCH,
INSTEAD OF THE 3RD WEEK OF APRIL TOTALLY MADE ME HAPPY!

CARS HEAT UP WHEN SITTING IN THE SUN.
I TOTALLY LOVED THIS!

 DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY

 FAVORITE PART OF SPRING...BLOSSOMS!
THEN TULIPS AND DAFFODILS.

SEASON 2...FALL...BYU FOOTBALL, LEAVES

SEASON 3...SUMMER...GREEN GRASS, LEAVES, AND SUMMER FLOWERS.

LEAST FAVORITE SEASON...WINTER.  FAVORITE IS UTAH JAZZ GAMES,
THEN WHITE SNOW ON MT. TIMPANOGOS AGAINST A BLUE SKY

THIS WAS MY HOME IN ST. GEORGE WHEN I WAS
IN KINDERGARTEN.  MY FIRST HOME WAS TORN DOWN
AND A BUILDING WAS BUILT ON THE PROPERTY.
THE BIG WINDOW IN THE FRONT WAS MY GRANDMA MITCHELL'S BEDROOM.
SHE LIVED WITH US.
SO DID UNCLE BRUCE WHILE GOING TO COLLEGE.
ALSO, KEN KAAKE (CAKE) FROM CANADA LIVED IN THE FIRST HOUSE
WHILE HE ATTENDED COLLEGE.

YARD AND SIDEWALK ARE DIFFERENT.
AN EXTRA STORY WAS BUILT UP.
THIS WAS THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET FROM US.
ARTHUR BRUHN LIVED THERE.
HE WAS PRESIDENT OF DIXIE COLLEGE!
IT IS NOW A BOOKSTORE.
